VIDEO: First U.S.-spec Gumpert Apollo arrives {Autoblog}

Sep 11th 2008 3:43PM They allowed the Gumpert because the Apollo S has a height-adjustable suspension...

If you remember a prior episode of TG where Jeremy, Richard, and James kept getting stuck on the ramp of a parking garage with their supercars... a Ferrari 430 was one of those cars that constantly got stuck.

I was puzzled as to why the Radical SR3 (which annhilated everything on the TG Power Lap times at that point) didn't count and speed bumps were the reason.

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart priced at $26,490 {Autoblog}

Aug 1st 2008 10:56AM Well, there are some people that would have a Ralliart or WRX (non-STi) as a daily driver or weekend drag racer so there's no need for fancy yaw control or other handling specific mods. Sure, front&rear LSDs would help hook up a competing WRX for drag racing, but for daily driving, a minor performance tweak would be great without the harder ride of an EVO or STi. Tweaks to the SST (tuners are already messing with it) will let it launch hard.

Those are the reasons why I personally didn't buy an 06 STi. Sure, the fancy gearbox, etcetc are nice. But for pounding through NYC streets, it wasn't ideal to have an Evo... not to mention the insane insurance rates and fear of theft. I have a modded performance car in my garage, but for sporty daily commuting, the WRX/Ralliart with light mods is perfect.

Jul 31st 2008 6:02PM I wonder which turbocharger this car is running. If it's the same as the EVO... !!! Electronic tuning on Evo Xs ups the hp to around 350-400 at the crank (280-320whp). So even with a weaker turbo, you'll hopefully see up to 300bhp. Sure, you miss out on the AYC and better brakes & bigger fenders... a few other things but nothing that would effect the car as a daily driver. Matches up nicely with a similarly tweaked 09 WRX that I'm sure people will dyno at 250whp (300bhp) with a few tweaks.

That's the Ticket! Crowd cheers as Veyron gets parking fine {Autoblog}

Jan 28th 2008 1:35PM I dunno about the UK, but in the US, 4000lbs+ will not stop a sleazy tow-truck driver from hooking the front of your car and dragging that Veyron scrapping on its rear down the street. Not to mention the wonderful damage to the transfer case... even if it was a flatbed, guarantee they scrape up that flat-bottom loading it.

Some angrier people would probably key the car or at least spit on it.

The warden should have called for the flatbed right away.

Spy Shots: Subaru Impreza WRX STi caught undisguised on 'Ring {Autoblog}

Sep 20th 2007 3:14PM And did anyone else notice the interior "cage" in the blue STi photos? You can see part some tubing similar to a harness bar reinforcement portion of a roll cage in the photos.

Could Subaru be making a version of the STi with this partial cage (a la RA-R) or is it standard? Maybe it is just for testing or for a motorsports version?

You can still see the rear seat headrests poking out so it doesn't seem to be a rear seat delete though a three door would be cool.

The pictures of the black STi are too dim to see rear interior details.

The Detroit Auto Show takes on all challengers {Autoblog}

Jun 21st 2007 6:19PM Even though it's not as "important" as Detroit, NY seems to be getting more and more production debuts which makes sense considering they see the greatest traffic. They said car culture is driven by the West Coast... but I think NY is a better representation the general US response to product.

It makes more sense that LA and NY become the premier auto shows for the US.

JDM Subaru Impreza goes on sale with 250HP 2.0L turbo {Autoblog}

Jun 5th 2007 3:10PM I'm not exactly sure how "superior" the JDM 2.0L is compared to our torquey 2.5L... in the Scooby community, it's pretty common to simply flash the 2.5L WRX and get that 250bhp out of it so the engine is certainly capable of the extra power.

Subaru says the S-GT has an equal-length header... that's good for a few HP but its usually more costly to produce (read: may not be in US or AU or UK WRXs). And the addition of a different turbocharger might account for the increase in hp.

People in the Subaru performance community flock to the 2.5L engines anywho. Who knows, it may be that the US/UK/AUDM WRX ends up with MORE power with the combo of the 2.5L block and the turbo and exhaust of the JDM. The 2.5L in the USDM WRX makes more stock bhp than the claimed 230 and loads more torque than the 2.0L
