New Zealand high-schoolers to use "text-speak" on national exams {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 11th 2006 2:04PM My physics teacher actually /wrote/ our tests and exam in text-speak, including the occasional "lol" and smiley face. No one knew what to make of it.

Superbowl Ads on Google Video {The Unofficial Google Weblog}

Feb 6th 2006 12:20PM A few of the videos won't play for me, and I get the message "This video is not playable in your country." (Canada) with no explanation. For example, the nationwide ads won't play. Not very google-like.

TC7 day 1 - How hackers get caught {Hack a Day}

Sep 17th 2005 9:17PM "In 1996 the CIA admitted to running the two largest freemail services. So, if you use Hotmail, youre agreeing to give all of your info away." Not that I am suprised, but can anyone back this up?

First nano thoughts {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 9th 2005 4:06PM I love these things. I can't wait to see one in person because I can't belive how small it is.

Hackaday links resurrection {Hack a Day}

Aug 28th 2005 5:03PM The extension I use most is developer toolbar (http://chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/). Even though I don't do much web development, it is an awesome internet swiss army knife. Also useful as a CSS editor. Tabbedbrowser preferences (http://216.55.161.203/theonekea/tabprefs/) is also a good extension because it adds a "new tab" button and some more preferences. Finally, wikialong (http://www.wikalong.org/) is a good concept but it is not there yet because of a slow server and small community compared to the size of the internet.

Play BlackJack on your iPod {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 14th 2005 5:15PM Unfortunatly its PC only, if someone wants to help me port it I can give you the source. A more complete version will be finished soon.

CueCat hacking {Hack a Day}

Jun 12th 2005 5:12PM I picked up one of these at a radio shack when I was in the states. I never really had a use for it, but I knew that it could be hacked. The qcat I had plugged into the keyboard port, and the serial code was simply sent as though it was typed on the keyboard (as far as I can remember) with an escape sequence at the beginning to call the software to take focus.

hackaday lazy afternoons {Hack a Day}

Jun 8th 2005 6:25PM I wasn't one of the sumbitters of that was mentioned, but in their defence: You are getting paid to run a blog, why do you have to complain about getting tips that have already been posted? Thats what the search box is there for? I didn't even notice there was a search box, until you mentioned it. Its hard to find next to all the ads. I can understand the frustration if you were getting hundreds of tips, but three? How much inconvinence could this possibly cause to you? These people are only trying to help. Many hackaday readers would love to be able to go through all the links that you get sent. The thing that bugged me the most of all this is that just yesterday, the hackaday links had a repeat link - of the FEATURED ARTICLE from the same day no less. At least practice what you preach. If you want to whine, get a LiveJournal.

hackaday links {Hack a Day}

Jun 4th 2005 7:46PM Actually, the IP tracking stuff is pretty generic. It is not neccicarily taken from ip2phrase. It is a mix of whois info and IP geography. Another useful way to get this is to use http://www.hostip.info/api/get.html?ip=12.215.42.19 . They let you use it on your site, but check out the site for terms and stuff. I havn't used the API myself, I just use it to look up locations of IPs that I come across (from server logs etc.)

hackaday links {Hack a Day}

May 23rd 2005 12:29PM I have to agree with what #7 said about the podcast. I do not usually listen to podcasts, but the few that I have heard have this problem. I havn't heard the hack a day podcast yet, so I can't speak for it, but from the podcasts that I have listend to, it makes me wonder what is so hard about scripting the show first. And get a good audio editor too, so you don't have to do it all in one take. I probably shouldn't say anything more until I listen to the podcast though.
