Microsoft says no Spring Xbox 360 Dashboard update coming this year {Engadget}

May 23rd 2008 7:34AM So this partnership with BT in the UK to allow streaming IPTV content (which was slated for June and would imply it was bundled in the Spring update) is not happening?

I think BT would be really disapointed, and Microsoft missing out on a great opportunity.

I for one, are not impressed.

iPhone 2.0 beta gets geotagging? {Engadget}

May 22nd 2008 11:04AM Sorry to pour water on the fire, but Mobile Google Maps has had approximate locationing for quite a while now. It bases your location on your local GSM transmitter. Work's quite well on my N82.

So I suspect they are just updating the Google Maps App to work like it's JavaME brother. I do think they are doing Geotagging, but I suspect it isn't GPS.

Nokia N81 and N82 come to light {Engadget Mobile}

May 11th 2007 2:05PM Surely that's just the N95 in a new package. I hope Nokia pick up that pushing-the-boundaries streak again for the N-series.

London to become Europe's largest WiFi hotspot {Engadget}

Apr 17th 2007 6:33AM It should be mentioned that The Cloud also connect a load of other networks together such as T-mobile and BT Openworld, and BT Openworld offer you free access if you have their 8MB ADSL line, which a lot of people do. Basically if you have a BT Home Hub you have free WiFi access waiting for you.

@Chrisphillers - GPRS and UMTS cannot compare to the cheapness and speed of WiFi, though I guess it depends on a persons usage. I love how useful the WiFi is on the N80, I only use 3G if I have a really desperate need and I'm feeling a bit flush.

Kingston unveils flash storage vending machine in UK {Engadget}

Apr 11th 2007 5:46AM My uni has had these kind of vending machines for months now. Some company in Bristol makes them, it sells Ethernet cable, Webcams, Flash memory, CD-Rs, everything. Accepts coins and card with chip and pin, really reasonable prices too.

Zenum's Organum MP3/MP4 Player floated into the ether {Engadget}

Mar 7th 2007 4:39PM Does anyone else remember that Nokia concept they knocked out a few months back? Looks identical! I can't find the Endgadget link, but if you GIS Nokia Concept, loads of images come up.

The do-it-yourself SSD adapter {Engadget}

Feb 19th 2007 9:31AM Surely you can build something like this with over the counter pieces for significantly less. The only thing that might require a bit more work is how to translate the data location in to the 4 cards, since they would work as some kind of RAID underneath the EIDE interface.

Speed could be increased some by using faster cards, but you will also get a speed increase over hard drives because these will be randomly accessible. If someone develops a tutorial to do this, I'm building it!

Apple sez iTunes users should hold off on Vista {Engadget}

Feb 3rd 2007 7:37AM This would have been a very low swipe from Apple if they hadn't release the update so soon.

The beta for Vista has been out for years, and they have had plenty of time to put together a patch for the release because the corporate edition has been out since November - the point of which is to verify the compatibility of software.

At least they have resolved these issues.

Transcend's JetFlash T2K USB drives are light -- duh {Engadget}

Feb 2nd 2007 2:28PM Very nice, but I wonder how long would they last in your pocket?

Gizmo Project makes all VoIP to landline calls free. Forever. {Engadget}

Jul 20th 2006 9:42AM VOIP Stunt have been doing this for ages. No real sign up or anything, no idea how they make their money. I imagine theyll sell those numbers to advertising companies. There is no free mobile calls, and the free countries is limited, but a good range. Sound quality was pretty dire tho, but that was what my mum said.
