Samsung's Omnia "Millionaire Pack" is ironically only €699 {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 1st 2008 12:11PM They're probably just anticipating the continued downturn of the U.S. economy. Just wait a few weeks and the exchange rate will have that costing $1 million U.S. :-(

Purported Vodafone BlackBerry Storm screen shots emerge {Engadget Mobile}

Sep 26th 2008 3:14PM The Nokia e71. You'll need to purchase it unlocked for around $350 or $400, but it's the thinnest smartphone available (I think) at 10mm, 3MP camera (although the pic quality seems a little less ... a quick google search will show you what I'm talking about), WiFi, 3G, QWERTY. With its metal construction, it looks classy and feels great in the hand.

A lot of people will discount it right away because it's running a Symbian OS, but I've had really great luck with it. I've found it to be functional in every way I use the phone, and in two months I haven't had to reboot the phone or had to deal with it rebooting itself. And with Mail for Exchange, I've got push (or push-like ... immediate, in any case) e-mail and wireless syncing with my Exchange server. I couldn't be happier with the device.

Oh, and you can use it with AT&T's MEdia Net for $15 / month.

United States loves Firefox 3, Turkmenistan, not so much {Download Squad}

Jun 18th 2008 11:59AM I find it really interesting that Iran has more downloads than most countries, including Canada and China (separately, not combined).

Nokia E71 confirmed and oh-so-slim {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 16th 2008 10:01AM $15 per month over the life of a two-year contract is $360, which is quite a lot of money. I paid a little under $400 for an e61 when it was first released and I'm still using it, although I'll be the first to admit the keyboard is atrocious and it's pretty sluggish. I'd pay $500 for a thinner device that remedies the issues of it's e61 predecessor, especially if it'd save me $360 in monthly data usage over two years. Potentially more than that if have an older unlimited (data) Blackberry plan that you can use with Blackberry Connect.

Comparing the e71 to the iPhone is like comparing apples and poodles, anyway. The iPhone isn't a great smartphone, whereas the e61 (and hopefully e71) beat Palm's offerings any day of the week with regard to durability and call quality (and in my opinion, the S60 OS is preferably to Garnet and WinMo < 6.0). HTC's newer devices and the X1 look compelling though.

AT&T's BlackBerry Pearl 8120 gets reviewed {Engadget Mobile}

Mar 21st 2008 1:20AM I rarely post inflammatory comments (I rarely post at all, actually), but what are you talking about?? A quick Google search will yield a dozen links to sites (with no affiliation to Weblogs, Inc.) referencing AT&T's 8120 with WiFi, not GPS. And how are you going to argue with someone who can actually see the device on their premier site. (I can see it too, by the way.)

Microsoft working on Startkey flash drive software platform {Download Squad}

Mar 3rd 2008 12:38PM I, for one, have absolutely no interest in anything that Microsoft is doing with USB drives, until they fix Vista so that I can work from files on my USB drive without the OS irrevocably deleting them.

Black Friday Giveaways (part 9): AT&T Tilt {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 25th 2007 3:44PM I want this so very badly.

All the Android coverage you want is at Engadget right now {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 12th 2007 4:00PM And that's based on what, exactly? It looks to me as if Google has taken some nice first steps here - I really like the look, and although I doubt it'll be as responsive as it was in the video released with the SDK announcement (it'll depend on the hardware, of course), it was moving a lot snappier than anything I've run on any smartphone I've owned. Maybe on par with my Treo 650 from back in the day.

In my opinion, the beauty of Android is what I expect will be a multitude of functional third-party apps that people won't need to jailbreak their phone to use. And I think it's *likely* that even if those apps fail to materialize, Android will play nicely with all of Google's apps. Which will be fantastic.

Nov 2nd 2007 1:15AM The placing of the space key seems really ill-advised, especially for users migrating from other QWERTY devices.

RIM experiencing yet another BlackBerry outage? {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 3rd 2007 2:49PM I had a brief period this morning during which I received a "Data Connection Refused" message, but it also appeared that I had no EDGE connectivity at all. I chalked it up to an issue on AT&T's side, not RIM's. This is on an 8800 in Lincoln, NE, and it lasted about 20 minutes.
