Matias Duarte, designer behind Sidekick and Helio, now developing Palm's next-gen UI {Engadget}

Jul 3rd 2008 9:14PM Oh and also, the sidekick basically made T-Mobile a legit provider. I'd be proud that my creation, whether or not its up to standards of others, was a cornerstone in the market it was targeted at.

Matias Duarte, designer behind Sidekick and Helio, now developing Palm's next-gen UI {Engadget}

Jul 3rd 2008 9:13PM On the sidekicks defense: It does what it was meant to do (decided by Danger) very well. It IM's and texts like a mofo. The web interface is okay, at best, everything else is just okay.

If Danger opened up the platform a bit, it could have been a really great PDA phone, I think.

The UI on Sidekicks was never great thanks to the horrible screens they had always had. The new LX has a beautiful screen, but the downfall is that they had to translate that mediocre look thats already 5 years old to it.

Hopefully Microsoft evolves the sidekick and not changes it completely because I feel its a great jumping off point.

Palm was (and still is) great. The problem is, as everyone is aware, the OS has never really evolved. The centro is all around a very good phone... hopefully this guy can take it to the next level.

Sony talks future of OLED, Blu-ray's chances against DVD {Engadget}

Jul 3rd 2008 4:07PM For me its a matter of being moderately poor. If I hadn't gotten a PS3, I wouldn't have spent the extra money on a BR player, and would have been fine just using DVDs.

Of course this will go away in a couple months, maybe a year, when the prices drop again.

Us poor folk are pathetic :(

PS3 firmware 2.40 is live {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2008 1:41AM 1: Playstation 3 isn't 802.11n capable. You're only connecting to your router with 802.11g.

2: It wouldn't matter either way because there is a very high chance that 802.11g is significantly faster (54Mbps) than your actual connection to the internet.

For instance, I am running fiber internet and my advertised max speed is 15Mbps, and I get that normally. Cable internet can reach such speeds, DSL generally can't.

The more you know.

HTC's Touch Diamond gets spotted in Sprint attire {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 1st 2008 7:28PM i love sprint. i beat them into submission after 5 years of being a customer and am getting a great deal on a family plan, and got all of my phones for free. (2 centros a moto q9c and a katana II or DLX or whatever... this was in november)

Service is good in southern california, but I would expect that from any provider.

Verizon matched my monthly payment but didn't have any phones I wanted for a price I was willing to pay.

Touch Cruise latest HTC device to fall to Android {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 1st 2008 2:31AM @Jato: Where did you pick up that gem? Push is similar to text messages in that info is being sent to your phone as it is created or received, but it isn't converted in any way.

At least not in its natural form. What the server does with the info before it pushes it is it's own deal.

You can get email pushed to many devices in full HTML. It just depends on the server and the client. Blackberry does in fact receive pushed emails.

The term Push does not imply worsened quality :)

HTC Touch Pro passes FCC in CDMA flavor {Engadget}

Jul 1st 2008 1:38AM Sprint doesn't pull that shit. And afaik, verizon doesn't either.

This phone is going to be sex... and since I have great sprint coverage in my area, I will continue to be happy for the next year or so after its released.
