Great Wall Shocker: Spy shots reveal a unique-looking concept {Autoblog}
Apr 18th 2009 2:19PM Actually, contemporary art from Mainland Chinese artists have sold very well with Christie's for many years now, with single paintings fetching over 2MM GBP. It's fairly clear that design talent is there. Heck, the Wall Street Journal even ran an article about Chinese auto design talent (http://blogs.wsj.com/chinajournal/2009/03/17/chinese-car-designers-lots-of-talent-few-job-prospects/)
.
It's clearly not about the lack of talent. The bigger problem would probably be financial, with the small upstarts unable to attract talent away from multinationals employing local talent at their international design centers.
iriver P7 unboxing and review {Engadget}
Apr 14th 2009 4:11PM 480x272? Use of a stylus? Seems kinda backward for iRiver. Still a solid design though.
I gotta love that home screen or whatever it is. Oh so clean. The magazine idea is great, but it lacks a bit of pop.
Acer Timeline hands-on {Engadget}
Apr 7th 2009 9:41PM You don't pay for it, but fortunately, you still get some semblance of quality.
Fake Nokia N97 is fake, tiny, buggy... and fake {Engadget}
Apr 4th 2009 11:57AM Actually, no, that's not Chinese manufacturing at its best. Perhaps if you've bothered to look at what they're doing in mechanical watches (go check out the forums at Watchuseek), making many of the only non-Swiss tourbillon & repeater movements. On a more gadgety note, perhaps Lenovo, or even the SmartQ 5 has shown how much they've improved. Problem is they lack the marketing savvy to demonstrate to others what they CAN do as the rest of the world only likes to show what they can't do.
VIDEO: Brilliance BS4 scores zero points in Euro crash test {Autoblog}
Mar 26th 2009 7:03PM Actually, the BS4 also did pretty bad in C-NCAP (supposedly equivalent of last year's Euro NCAP) tests in China in January 2008, scoring 3-stars. Since they said Euro NCAP last year would have provided also a 3-star rating, seems the Chinese system is on par with the Europeans. This is compared to Chery getting 5-stars with their new Chery G6 and Roewe 550 under C-NCAP.
Lenovo KIRFs again with the OPhone UI {Engadget}
Mar 24th 2009 8:33PM How is this more of a KIRF than Samsung Instinct and LG Voyage? Those were blatant iPhone-UI "inspirations" but I don't even see a MENTION of it being 'KIRF'. Give me a break. Sinophobia at its best.
REPORT: Chrysler considering pulling out of Canada {Autoblog}
Mar 18th 2009 10:21AM CAW was the Canadian chapter of UAW up until 1984 when negotiations with GM didn't go the way the Canadians planned resulting in a split up of the union. Ever since, it seems to me that there isn't much collaboration between the two anymore.
SmartQ 5 MID scores itself Ubuntu, a ridiculously low price tag {Engadget}
Mar 18th 2009 9:30AM That's already the physical product. Google it and you'd find some coverage showing shots in the wild and hands-on shots which, well, look the same as this.

Mar 18th 2009 9:28AM Actually, it says 'Google' in Chinese, but then that'd make too much sense wouldn't it.
