No DirecTV HD for Vista Media Center until 2010? {Engadget HD}

Jul 6th 2008 5:39PM No H.264 so now Blu-Ray and no AVCHD (camcorders) --> no HD support at all as we know it. What kind of "media center" is this? Totally useless.

Nokia's "not enthusiastic" about touchscreens -- Apple, LG, and HTC say wha? {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 12th 2007 4:01PM If you look at Windows Mobile devices all the best selling have keyboard (QWERTY mostly). US operator's offer almost no WM phones without keyboard at all. Touch screen is bad because it encourages to bad UI design meaning that the UI is hard to use without a stylus. We see this when we compare Smartphone and Pocket PC. SP usability is light years ahead of PPC. PPC phones have so many extra buttons for different tasks like opening Start menu, pressing OK button etc. and still you need the stylus to use the UI efficiently.

Canon's compact PowerShot TX1 captures 7.1 megapixel stills and HD video {Engadget}

Feb 22nd 2007 7:55AM Think about having a 32GB SD with a camera, which uses MPEG4. You get 10x longer videos than with MJPEG. Video format really matters.

Motorola's MOTORIZR Z8: a Symbian "kick-slider" with HSDPA {Engadget}

Feb 12th 2007 6:11AM It's UIQ 3.1, but I don't see a stylus. I thought Motorola totally abandoned Symbian.

Engadget HD Review: NeoDigits X5000 Networkable DVD player {Engadget HD}

Jan 13th 2007 5:50AM XBox fans make a lot of noise. X3000/X5000 does not have any fans and makes no sound at all except the DVD drive. And XBox does not have an HDMI interface. Who wants to watch HD movies or upscaled movies without HDMI?

Engadget HD Review: NeoDigits X5000 Networkable DVD player {Engadget HD}

Jan 11th 2007 6:13PM I have played MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX-HD and WMV-HD with no problems at all.

Engadget HD Review: NeoDigits X5000 Networkable DVD player {Engadget HD}

Jan 11th 2007 4:26PM I have X3000, which is basically the same device without the high-end audio components. I really like the player, but I'd like to add these to the cons list:

* DVD drive is a high-speed PC drive and makes a lot of noise. This is the most serious disadvantage of the device. Normal DVD players make no sound at all and one would expect this kind of hi-tech device to do it too.

* DRM protected WMV and H.264 (MPEG4) are not supported because Sigma Designs EM8620L Chipset does not support them. Sigma Design, however, has a chip, which supports these.

* Picture slideshow has a 5 seconds fade-to-black transition, which cannot be removed or speed up no matter how fast the pre-scaled pictures a transferred from PC.

* Remote control really sucks. Buttons may stuck down and you have to point directly to the device withing a few meters.

* Web browser is totally useless partially because of the lack of Flash player. Flash player and Firefox port to the platform would make the browser perfect and increase greatly the value of the device. USB keyboard would also be great.

The included server software really sucks, but an open source alternative WizD is great.

BlackBerry versus BlackJack: RIM sues Samsung for trademark infringement {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 11th 2006 8:15AM If I was Cingular I would give RIM two choises: drop the lawsuit or we drop Pearl.
