No Blu-ray on Macs... and no one cares {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 2nd 2008 6:16PM I think your post has its logic all wrong... the fact that HDTVs are flying off shelves doesn't discount that DVDs aren't good enough - quite the opposite. DVDs NEED an HD set to do the DVD justice (due to standard NTSC resolution being less than even DVD resolution). HDTVs make DVDs look awesome for the average consumer.

Why there is little to no bluray demand on the desktop (or laptop) is very clear to me - what is *really* the point of all that 'extra' resolution on such a small screen (ie.- bluray makes a difference on a large HDTV but not a 17" or under laptop where even DVD's look great)?

Sony intros iPod-friendly S-AIRPLAY multi-room audio system {Engadget HD}

Aug 22nd 2008 4:51PM Ummm.... that is an IPHONE (not an iPOD) in the picture but everything in the description leads one to believe that it is NOT iphone certified. Is it?

For those of with iphones looking for a dock and having tried non iphone certified docks, you'll understand why this makes a BIG difference... (GSM buzzZZZZZZZZZZ...)

Cable providers shun HDTV at 2007 Cable Show {Engadget HD}

May 16th 2007 11:48PM That is certainly one man's opinion but I attended the same show and saw and heard LOTS about HD. Cable has nothing to be shy about when it comes to HD. If its really more HD (valuable...) that you want, then rant at the content providers. Cable providers are clamoring for more valuable HD channels to offer to put even further distance between themselves and the satellite guys.

Motorola to demo cable STB with ATSC tuner {Engadget HD}

Apr 27th 2007 2:07AM Yes... I work in the cable industry and this is what we have asked for specifically for the reason pointed out here. Local broadcasters are trying to charge cable companies to distribute their local signals to cable customers (as much as .75/mo per subscriber!) and so the response is "fine... then we'll just let the customers get it free over the air with a built-in tuner in the box". We'd rather pay an additional $50 up front in capital for the box than to have to pay local stations for what is free to customers...

SlySoft releases AnyDVD HD beta {Engadget}

Feb 14th 2007 7:56PM re: but not Blu-Ray yet

Gee... wouldn't it just be sinister (almost too smart) of Sony to support this to get the studios concerned about their support of HD DVD FIRST (yes, I realize Blu-ray has also been cracked but is not supported yet...).

Fujitsu LifeBook P7230 hits North America {Engadget}
