Apr 11th 2007 11:46PM There's nothing wrong with this story...it is about facts. The fact is that Verizon has now surpassed ATT in postpaid subscribers...that is a huge development.
The other facts are that Verizon gets more data revenue from its subscribers, and has a lower churn rate than ATT.
These are objective facts; one may not like it, but they are the facts. Right now VZW is surpassing ATT in execution in the marketplace, largely because they are regarded as the more reliable network, in spite of ATT's bogus claims regarding dropped calls. VZW has just announced that it is investing an additional 6 billion dollars in their network infrastructure this year alone. That may explain why they have been eating away at ATT's lead for the last several years. If Cingular/ATT had had their act together, the gap would not have been narrowed.

Apr 11th 2007 4:36PM First, don't get mad at engadget...they are simply citing a story from Information Week.
Second, as for the govt, Verizon has the most govt users.
Third, I believe the major difference between the total customer numbers and these direct retail subs is that the total customer number takes into acct prepaids, which are not really where you make your money.
So no matter how you cut it, this is a favorable report for Verizon, and should be a wake up call to ATT. It's amazing how ATT/Cingular has squandered what was once a large lead, after their merger a few years back.

Dec 12th 2006 8:32PM Gosh...it looks like the Verizon naysayers have come out with the usual gibberish.
I guess because VZW sucks and Sprint is so great is the reason why last quarter VZW had 1.9 million net additional subscribers, while Sprint had only 233,000, which is roughly the numbers one expects for a regional and not a national carrier. That's why Verizon had 0.95% retail postpaid churn, while Sprint had 2.4% postpaid churn. That's why VZW has roughly 5 million more subscribers than Sprint, and that margin is growing everyday.
It's funny how some people will always post on these blogs how Verizon sucks, yet somehow the majority of consumers haven't gotten that message, and keep on buying into VZW's reliable service.
The numbers tell the story...and the numbers clearly say that Verizon rocks and Sprint sucks.

Dec 10th 2006 8:32PM Obviously the name is a ripoff of BlackBerry, and is an attempt to capitalize on that name.
That being said, it's dumb to sue simply because RIM cannot lay claim to any name beginning with "Black."
All that being said, if you read the linked article, apparently this isn't the first time Samsung has had problems with ripping off a name.

Nov 4th 2006 9:57PM Technically, the URL doesn't resolve to a Pearl page, but to the discoverblackberry.com site, which happens to have a large portion of its home page real estate devoted to the Pearl...So it does resolve to a general blackberry site.
As for the source code...if you examine it, it doesn't use any redirect function but simply uses a frameset with the discoverblackberry.com URL...

Nov 2nd 2006 6:15PM There's no doubt that this second version of the Pearl is really the 8800 Indigo model...as thin as the Pearl, but with full keyboard and no camera...that's exactly the description for the Indigo...
So there's not really a second version of the Pearl...but a second BlackBerry model...
