Sony's VAIO VGC-JS190J all-in-one PC gets reviewed {Engadget}

Sep 24th 2008 11:27AM Second answer. It's a BD-ROM drive. Bluray read-only. It does however, burn DVD+-RW DL, DVD+-RW, DVD-RAM, CD+-RW and CD+-R. Like most other DVD burners, but it adds the more uncommon RAM as well. Tray loader kinda bugs me. Why no love for the slot-load?

Sep 24th 2008 11:20AM I was hoping to draw that comparison too, but a quick look at Apples iMac specs revealed that the new Sony still outclasses pretty much all the $1499 price point's major hardware specs. Except that the Sony comes with Intel's X4500HD integrated graphics no matter what configuration you choose and there's no upgrade available.

Sony JS (Apple iMac):

3.0GHz E8400 desktop CPU (2.66GHz T7800 mobile CPU)
4GB RAM (2GB RAM)
500GB HD (320GB HD)
BD-ROM/DVD DL-RW/DVD-RAM/CD-RW (Dual Layer DVD-RW/CD-RW "Superdrive")
Intel X4500HD 128MB shared memory (ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256MB GDDR3)
20.1" 1680x1050 LCD (20" 1680x1050 LCD) *Sony makes the point of adding the ".1" though I wonder if there's really a difference*
Integrated modem ($50 optional USB modem)

Sep 24th 2008 10:44AM You can't upgrade the video card, because the only thing this AIO has is Intel chipset integrated graphics.

Shuttle D10 desktop features built-in touchscreen, little else {Engadget}

Sep 22nd 2008 10:12AM Time to change the text! $425.19 shipped from NewEgg!

Sep 22nd 2008 10:10AM I thought that looked familiar! I was looking for a replacement to my aging Shuttle RefleXion HTPC and this little guy caught my eye. $425 all said and one is not too shabby for an SFF mobo, case, power and 7" WXGA touch screen. The integrated GMA 3100 shouldn't be all that bad short of more hardcore 3D gaming, though unfortunately, they left no capability for video upgrades. But yeah, that 100W PS has gotta go if it's not up to snuff. Then again, having only to add CPU, memory, HD and optical, it might have more than enough juice to go around.

Touch Viva: the "Opal" materializes as HTC's low-end champion {Engadget}

Sep 15th 2008 12:39PM If the Touch Viva's QVGA screen is "low-end" resolution then why is the upcoming Touch 3G still QVGA too? Just because it comes in a smaller package and has 3D acceleration?

Aug 28th 2008 2:39PM Yay. Sub-$1300 in a 720P projector is welcome, but what's the replacement bulb gonna cost? $300-$400? Pass.
