Sprint's XOHM WiMax service launching next month, geobrowsing detailed {Engadget}

Aug 29th 2008 12:00PM Contracts? When were contracts ever mentioned? I clearly read that they would be offering the service and devices without contracts. Allowing for more flexibility and no stress for the customer about a contract. I hope it takes off if customers really want this. In the mobile world contracts are more about the deep discounts spread across devices/handsets and customers have said they want to be able to buy at a real world price without a contract...the question is when they can buy this way will they.

Report says Nextel waived early termination fees for the government {Engadget}

Jun 13th 2008 3:35PM I don't think this is right, because Government subscribers don't have to sign contracts. I know Nextel has many a shady dealing with the Government (emergency spectrum bleed and all). But I guess the issue could be that they were charged even without a contract.

But lets face it, as long as consumers want "free" phones and are not willing to pay for good ones then contracts, subsidies and early termination fees will be the norm. On top of that the schemes that the companies run with "free" phones not being in stock (T-Mobile) and the fact that the backend systems all run by Amdocs can't calculate a partial rebate the entire markets gets inflated in very strange ways.

AT&T's 3G comes out on top in speed tests, will only get faster in 2009 {Engadget}

May 15th 2008 12:21PM Might you want to update the title and story to note that this testing was only in NYC, New Jersey, and Connecticut

I have found that nationwide is not the same as a few big cities and over very short distances.

Sprint dropped 1.09 million subscribers in Q1 {Engadget}

May 12th 2008 12:44PM You trying to tell me that AT&T and the iPhone are open?!?!?!?!

Apple has just created a new type of walled garden that even though their selling a large number of phones, most of the phones uses don't think it is a good phone or a good input device (that is why 40% carry another phone to make calls and type emails).

Sprint is one of the most open in terms of network and expect that to grow in other ways as they work to support customers and the market.
