Jun 2nd 2009 5:39PM Coulnd't you do this much cheaper with a Slingbox? If you have a mobile phone that does video out and has unlimited data (Touch Pro), you could essentially do the same thing at a much cheaper rate.

Jun 27th 2008 2:28PM This is a tough one, as I actually like a few Windows products, Xbox 360 is a big win for them, I like Live Search Mobile as well, as well as (dare I say it), Windows Mobile 6.1. I can just do so much with my 8525 that it always stuns people when I do a comparison to my other phones. Watching live TV or listening to streaming music seem to be very popular.

Feb 16th 2008 1:14PM I wonder how much actually has to do with the death of HD-DVD as a format. There's many a rumor floating around here in Redmond that MS had been getting ready to change the BOM to include the HD-DVD drive. Could be that they started ramping up the factory, but then CES came and the format died. If you notice it's been mostly since CES that the consoles have been in limited demand.

Feb 16th 2008 12:32AM My whole problem with this thing is the lack of common sense in the whole format war. It became more of who was the most savvy at marketing their format. While I can't really fault Sony for being more business savvy it doesn't really have anything to do with the consumer. Once again Sony is telling the consumer what is best for them instead of listening to the consumer in what they want. The HD-DVD format itself was instituted by the same group that brought us DVD, ensuring that that the format was backwards compatible. If looked at objectively from all aspects (price, features, etc.) it would seem that HD-DVD was the superior choice. I myself thought that Walmart offering a $199 player during the Christmas season was going to seal the deal for them (perfect purchase price for middle America "gadgety" Christmas gift). I fully expected Toshiba to sell loads of players. What I didn't account for was the consumer confusion over the formats and basically everyone decided to sit it out until some real progress was made as to who was going to be the winner. Personally I think it's Toshiba's lack of a decent marketing machine that lost them this war, they just didn't seem to put up much of a fight where as Sony went in slugging from the beginning.
