Leica X1 photo gallery proves that big shots do come in little packages {Engadget}

Nov 8th 2009 12:06PM ah, as much as I drool over this camera, there's one thing the SD200 can do that the X1 can't: zoom! XD

(Sarcasm aside, I actually shoot primes most of them time, so no zoom is a small problem. There many indications that this is a gorgeous photographer's camera - good results, ability to get a small DoF etc...)

Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin mini iPod dock lands for a hands-on {Engadget}

Nov 8th 2009 11:45AM A smaller dock from B&W eh? Let's see what kind of sound the vaunted company can make with even smaller speakers. If not great, they give me a pair of Nautilus, eh?

Crapgadget: 'All hope just might be lost' edition {Engadget}

Nov 8th 2009 3:57AM In my (asian) book "cute" gadgets are fine - usually not the most useful or best built, but they do have that cute factor. I don't have to agree with, and absolutely don't agree with the idea that they're crap just because they're a bit wild and eccentric.

Bose SoundDock 10 gets reviewed, probably not worth the pricetag {Engadget}

Nov 7th 2009 11:18PM iLounge has come a long way, but go back to the times they said a Sony EX-71 sounded better than the Etymotic ER-4. That was many years ago, yet the aftertaste still lingers for me.

Bose SoundDock 10 gets reviewed, probably not worth the pricetag {Engadget}

Nov 7th 2009 11:17PM If you pick the right designer jeans, they'll make you look good. Bose, will not. In fact, if you want happy ears, there's lots of better choices.

Gigabyte Booktop M1305 ultraportable gains external GeForce GT220 GPU (update: now with video!) {Engadget}

Nov 6th 2009 3:45AM If it's just going to be a GT220, then there isn't much point. You have to use an external monitor, and the GT220 isn't very powerful. In fact it's just a bit better than the 9400, the chip used in ION netbooks and the Apple MBP and MBA. An integrated 9400 wouldn't take up that much more power and you could actually use it with the laptop's monitor.

The Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Sa 3650 was the one that did this right. The external dock had a 3870, not great but a significant boost and IIRC after the update the internal monitor can be used.

Nov 6th 2009 3:21AM This is going in the right direction but a GT220 isn't going to do much more than a 9400 - which is in ION and all Apple notebooks anyways at apparently very low power cost. So why not integrate a 9400 instead? I'd say at least a mid-range video card before this becomes useful.

Canceled Motorola RAZR3 reemerges as KLASSIC in South Korea {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 5th 2009 7:11AM But that said, why not resurrect the RAZR brandname in the smartphone context? People still know it, people might associate it with good things. With smartphones getting bigger screens and getting thinner like the old RAZR, a Droid/Milestone with no keyboard and thus thinner could easy revive the old name. Much better than coming up with 5,000,000 new buzzwords/brands.

China bans corporal punishment in internet rehab, UK and USA open up their own clinics {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 6:02AM That's very nice, but the implementation of administrative law in China isn't the same as it is in the US and UK. Given problems with the PRC legal system - corruption, low judge quality, local protectionism comes to mind - enforcement can be quite difficult.

That isn't to say it won't happen. Edicts from above have substantial force, and if people complain on the internet (ironically) things happen faster.

Olympus E-P2 official, patches over E-P1 problems and jacks up the price {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 4:41AM Seriously, the E-P1 is a bad camera for casual/beginner photographers given its poor autofocus speed and limited versatility (no flash or acceptable ISO3200). I think Olympus
would have been better off refining the E-P1 for that market (add a flash, AF lamp and improve the AF) and cutting back on cost .

Looking at the improved EVF and and manual features this seems targeted at the serious market, but still, if no real IQ improvements, $300 might not be worth it.
