Google, Verizon team up to throw support behind FCC's net neutrality push {Engadget}

Oct 22nd 2009 9:03AM That is what Net Neutrality will PREVENT FROM HAPPENING. Neutral as it is today. Without neutrality, the Internet will be run and governed by the telecoms themselves...eliminating torrents and the free speech that we enjoy today.

Stop watching fox and do some real research...

Google, Verizon team up to throw support behind FCC's net neutrality push {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 22nd 2009 6:58AM Although totally unexpected, this is not the first time Verizon has broken ties with all other telecoms and supported pro-consumer policies. They originally fought hard against local number portability, but then did a complete turnaround and fully supported it.

T-Mobile posts Sidekick contact recovery instructions {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 20th 2009 5:05PM Wow, I didn't realize there were any SK users left after what they've been subjected to. Run Forest Run

First Sidekick class-action lawsuits predictably get underway {Engadget}

Oct 15th 2009 3:05PM At the end of the day, the massive loss of customers might be more harmful than any lawsuit. Seems as though people have a fair enough reason to ditch TMO or at least get a new line discount on a smartphone that can be backed up instead of being stored only in the cloud.

The loss of trust is as bad if not worse than the data loss. It's sad, but the SK and Danger's days are probably numbered.

Microsoft recovers 'most, if not all' Sidekick customer data {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 15th 2009 1:28PM I'm not a SK user, so I could be wrong here, but I thought that the outage was about 2 weeks before TMO admitted that the data was gone? If that's not the case, I proudly stand corrected. But the saga goes back weeks since the original data outage.

I just really question MS' commitment to Danger, particularly with letting something like this happen under their watch. I know they didn't design any of the Danger platform, but at the end of the day, they do own and manage the company.

Microsoft recovers 'most, if not all' Sidekick customer data {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 15th 2009 7:31AM Wow, so it only took MS a couple of weeks and all the bad PR to finally pull it together. Nice. And these are the guys who are pushing Office Online and all the other cloud computing.

I'm not a sidekick user, but am very happy for the all of them out there. I have a strong feeling that the platform will either be totally revamped or simply killed off completely after this event. I mean, really, how much time, energy, and money will MS invest into this platform when they're all ga-ga with WinMo??

Nokia tells all on Booklet 3G: $299 with a 2-year contract on AT&T {Engadget}

Oct 14th 2009 2:03PM It's not *unlimited*. It's ONLY 5GB per month with an overage rate of $500.00 per gig and the ability for AT&T to disconnect your service at their whim for "abuse". Consistent with all other carriers. But it's definitely not unlimited.

T-Mobile 'considering additional measures' to compensate Sidekick owners {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 12th 2009 8:36PM This is just poor design. T-Mobile should have never agreed to something so vulnerable. The USERS should have never agreed to purchase a completely dumb terminal like that. T-Mobile is responsible for the service and shouldn't pass the buck. Microsoft is completely responsible for Danger. Both of them are at serious fault. But at the same time, ANY user who 100% trusts the cloud to do everything all of the time is putting their own selves at risk.

Verizon removes gloves, begins 'There's a map for that' anti-AT&T ad campaign (video) {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 6th 2009 1:45AM I've got both a VZW phone and an ATT phone. Neither is perfect, and VZW is not "significantly" better than ATT. The big thing with ATT is that it is GSM which automatically gives you: true conference calling...up to 5 additional numbers (add and drop as you wish); the ability to add a call waiting call to your primary call (and keep adding from there); and of course, SIMULTANEOUS voice and data over 3g. As VZW went the yesteryear approach of CDMA (which is so 1995), none of the above are available. Heck, you still have to dial *72 to forward your phone. On GSM, I do it directly on the phone. Oh, and can specify how long the phone rings before going to voice mail. Can't do that on CDMA.

I'm no fan at all of AT&T, but am even less of a fan of the most restrictive and expensive carrier of all - Verizon Wireless. At least on AT&T, you can bring your own un-hacked non-modified phone and get the freedom to do what you wish. On VZW, ONLY what they "allow" you to use can be used, which means, a VZW-modified phone. Remember, they were the first carrier in the world to lock out features that would allow users to bypass them charging for services. Remember bluetooth file transfers that were disabled on Moto phones? That was VZW who did that. They've resisted Wi-Fi as it would cost them precious data revenue. And, are the slowest to debut these modified and restrictive phones anyway.

Too bad we don't have real competition - it'd be great if we had 3 or 4 GSM carries all on the same frequency...like the rest of the modern world!

Apple Genius says 30 percent iPhone call drop rate is average in New York {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 1st 2009 1:10AM It really does depend on location and time of day. AT&T has major capacity issues on the network, which is the majority of the issues. I'm in South Florida and for the most part, it's not that bad. But I travel to Central Florida frequently and there it is just absolutely terrible. If I don't force my BB Bold to lock onto 3G (via hack), it stays on EDGE and even sometimes GPRS. Of course, locking on 3G ensures even more dropped calls. Letting it choose automatically kills the battery and ensures mostly 2G service

Oh, I have a Verizon phone from my work and it's a 'little' better, but not significantly. If anything, I miss more calls on Verizon than I ever have on AT&T. The caller just hears it ring 9 or 10 times before eventually going to voice mail, yet my phone never rings once. This happens a lot on Sprint (previous experience) and somewhat frequently on Verizon. (Personally, I don't get all the hoopla about Verizon being so great...so expensive maybe, but not significantly better than AT&T. And I know because I have both providers.)
