Optimus Pultius: because Maximus just isn't enough {Engadget}
Jul 22nd 2008 9:44AM You realize that the power requirements for the keyboard would make your battery:
A. Melt
B. Catch fire
C. Explode
D. Last 5 Minutes
E. All of the above
Take your time... Don't rush through this.
Trapdoor Toaster releases bread on the bottom, removes trademark "pop" {Engadget}
Jul 21st 2008 10:45AM Nothing new here... This style is what is used in most quick-service (read: Crappy food) places for decades.
Only difference is that they use a very slowly moving wire rack to move the bread past the electric heating elements allowing it to not require a 'trap door' but is instead held in place by the moving wire rack until it falls out the bottom--usually onto the floor where they step on it once or twice.

This one is horizontal, but there are vertical ones as well.
Techie Hall of Shame {Hack a Day}
Jul 18th 2008 12:56PM The only reason that any of these guys made the list is because they got caught.
Just think of the ones that didn't...

Jul 17th 2008 9:21AM iPhone sucks.
No Copy+paste - So it's not a business-class device. I use my HTC 6800 all day sending emails and copying and pasting between emails, word, excel, web pages, and txt's that I receive. Can't copy or paste on the iPhone.
Also has a built-in Terminal Services client, so I can remotely administer my servers if one goes down. Can't do that on the iPhone.
Also has the ability to receive picture messages reliably, and not require me to open a web browser to get at them. They download the same as any other message. That sucks on the iPhone.
And it uses a Mini-USB to charge, transfer files, and it is also the headset port. No proprietary connectors that cost $15 bucks here. That's not really good if you ask me.
Oh, and I can put an extended battery on there for when I know I am going to be away from my charger (which is any computer built in the last 10 years, so it doesn't happen often) that will make my phone last for something crazy like 10 hours of talking. Can't really do that with the iPhone at all can you? Sure, the battery is not soldered in now--but you have to void your warranty (or pay Apple) to have it replaced.
Oh sure... You supposedly can BUY things that make the iPhone do all that--or in some cases void your warranty--but my 6800 did all that when I bought it. You just paid $400 bucks for your iPhone, and it doesn't work all the way?
iPhone sucks. It is the Unreality Bubble around Stevie that makes you think other wise.
Mars Phoenix lander saves itself with some quick thinking {Engadget}
Jul 16th 2008 1:42PM The laws:
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
So you are wrong: Human lives were not at stake, so therefore the robot decided to preserve itself in compliance with the third law.
Turn any motor into a servo with RepRaps new board {Hack a Day}

Now, the motors in a powerwheels... Yeah. Those are some beefy motors. And rated for continuous use. :P
USB popcorn popper {Hack a Day}
Jul 11th 2008 1:11PM wrongwrongwrongwrongwrongwrong.
Need more info? Okay... how about the fact that if the can was hot enough to pop corn (water boiling is 212 at sea level, the can would have had to be much hotter than that) then he would have BURNED HIS HANDS.
Why can't people use their heads when it comes to this kind of stuff...
HaD, I want a much better post from you tomorrow. One with lots of LED's in it to make up for this obviously DIM post.
Taser ammo for your spud gun {Hack a Day}
Jul 10th 2008 9:22AM Idiots... This is a bunch of crap. If I would have known College would have been this easy, I wouldn't have busted my ass for the last 6 years working late nights for terrible pay...
Instead, I would have been drinking until dawn and building potato guns for my final research project.
Blazepro ships Wii Classic Controller, Nintendo hints at first-party classic attachment {Engadget}
Jul 10th 2008 8:35AM Couple of things there... The Wii hardware (bluetooth, wireless, and SD Card) is physically turned off when the console is in GC mode. So, you would have to be playing the games in Wii mode when you used this controller.
Otherwise, the hackers would be all over the console (more so than they already are now) because GC mode has been hacked for Homebrew for quite a while.
