Microsoft revamps Zune Pass: keep ten tracks per month forever and ever {Engadget}

Nov 20th 2008 9:10AM shanoboy,
There's about a dozen monthly expenses I'd do without before I canceled my Zune Pass subscription. Like hot water.

Microsoft revamps Zune Pass: keep ten tracks per month forever and ever {Engadget}

Nov 20th 2008 12:38AM Wow, what a great way to get the people who were hung up on "owning" music into the service. Personally I could care less if I own or rent-- being able to download whatever I want whenever I want makes owning music irrelevant-- but I know several people who have balked at subscription services for that reason. There's simply no excuse anymore!

Xbox Experience now available to all who signed up, Netflix HD streams too {Engadget}

Nov 19th 2008 2:47PM The new Netflix streaming function is absolutely awesome, but I'm really disappointed Microsoft didn't fix the problems with Zune music streaming. The music player in the dashboard still can't play lossless audio back properly (it skips every 3 seconds) and Windows Media Center still won't play subscription tracks or load up my Zune playlists. Why can't Microsoft get this stuff to work right? For that matter why is Zune still separate from Windows Media Player? Just integrate the damn thing already.

Dell's Intel Core i7-packing XPS Studio and XPS 730x desktops on sale now {Engadget}

Nov 17th 2008 12:36PM And no, Sunny is totally living up to its potential. Without it I never would've learned the benefits of mixing cat food, beer and glue. And I certainly can't picture my life without Night Man or Greenman. If this is all gibberish to you, then you seriously need to watch this show. It's on FX.

Ask Engadget HD: Best gaming / movie console: Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3? {Engadget HD}

Nov 12th 2008 1:09PM Obviously if you don't really care for the increased quality of Blu-ray, the 360 is the way to go. Although there will only be 300 HD titles initially, Netflix HD streaming is going to be absolutely huge for movie lovers. As it is there's already going to be about 10,000 SD programs to stream so that's a pretty good start. Plus, Blu-ray players will be sub-$200 very soon, most likely on Black Friday.

Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots have a little Zune in 'em {Engadget}

Nov 12th 2008 12:28PM Extra Zune sauce on mine, please.

How would you change Microsoft's new Zunes / v3.0 software? {Engadget}

Nov 1st 2008 2:25PM There is drag and drop. What are you talking about. Let's say you have a bunch of albums labeled as "Rock" and you want to change those to "Post-Punk". Just select the albums and drag them to the "Post-Punk" genre in the left window pane. Easy.

Netflix Watch Instantly coming to TiVo {Engadget}

Nov 1st 2008 1:28PM Wow, only 24 hours. Apple TV is even sucky-er than I thought!

How would you change Microsoft's new Zunes / v3.0 software? {Engadget}

Nov 1st 2008 1:24PM Overall Zune software 3.0 is great. But here's my major gripes:

1) Xbox 360 integration. It would be absolutely awesome if we could take the TV shows I've downloaded on Xbox Live and watch them on my laptop or even Zune. I cancelled cable because I found it would be a lot cheaper and easier to just buy all the episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and South Park on Xbox Live

2) Improved media streaming. The music player in the dashboard can't play lossless WMA tracks and Windows Media Center can't play my subscription tracks or playlists. Really annoying. It would also be great to have album art in the dashboard media player.

3) The new predictive text search bar in 3.0 is TERRIBLE. It slows the process down dramatically and it's just plain annoying that text shows up 3-4 seconds after I've typed it. Either go back to the old search bar or drastically improve what they've got in there now, but the status quo is terribly inadequate.

4) Why does it take so long to be able to scroll down a long playlist? Just trying to go to the middle of a 500 song playlist takes 5 seconds for the screen to register what I'm trying to do with the scroll bar (this happens on both of my Vista machines with good dual core processors). There's just no reason for that when there's no images involved. It's been this way since 2.0 was introduced.

5) Bring flags back to the device. They were a very useful tool for music collection management. I have to send myself emails to remind myself to change stuff. Lame.

Nov 1st 2008 1:09PM I fifth that. Great idea.
