Review: DJ Hero {Joystiq}

Nov 2nd 2009 12:05PM Thanks for making a good, sane post.

Sammy is an elitist idiot who thinks that because he's heard of Bemani, that he has the right to cast games to the depths of hell. It's cute.

I used to be annoyed that Activision decided to make rhythm games that are most likely inspired by the Bemani series. Then I thought of something: Konami had every opportunity to do the same thing. Did they? No. In fact, the few chances they DID get, they blew in grand fashion.

Beatmania US? Major failure. US Arcade release of IIDX Gold? Never happened. Any US cabinet of GuitarFreaks? Non-existent. Hell, they didn't even jump into pushing DDR to the American masses until it was too late and most of us who knew about it since at least 1999 were over the hype. See what I'm saying?

Konami had many chances, and they blew them all. They weren't interested in our market, and felt we weren't interested in their games. Activision comes along and says "hey, it wouldn't be so hard to digest if we just changed A, B, C, etc.", and they did so and voila!

Also, as someone else pointed out, the gameplay mechanic is much different. To trash your stupid car analogy, it's not like choosing a car with a cassette player over a cd player. It's more like...well, a shooting game that uses a controller, and one that uses a light gun. It's a similar concept, but a totally different way to play.

I'll give this game a try when I step into a Best Buy and check it out. I already like the idea that scratching is actually a necessary component, unlike IIDX. IIDX uses the scratch as another "button" you hit, and furthermore, it's a button that can be disabled via auto-scratch!

Kenny, sorry to drag your post down with all that rebuttal.

Xbox Dashboard update preview invites out this Friday {Joystiq}

Oct 22nd 2009 4:52PM I don't think I'll make much use of the update, only because I signal switch on my monitor between my 360 and computer, so facebook is literally a button press away. Plus it's on my blackberry. Still, I do like the idea of being able to find who has gamertags among my friends.

I just hope it only works one way. I don't want every 13 year old I play in halo or SF4 trying to spam my facebook with requests and "u suk" messages.

Play as your Mii, or a professional skater, or a professional skater's Mii in Tony Hawk Ride {Joystiq}

Oct 6th 2009 3:23PM I dunno, I don't think it's an awful trend.

When it comes to ports that are on the next-gen systems, everybody knows that they are not created equal. Wii isn't as strong graphically as the others, so what would be the incentive to buy for a consumer who has the Wii and another system? Or, taking those consumers out of the equation, what would be a reasonable addition to the game so people who have a Wii don't look at the other two platforms and feel ripped off or like they were given another cheap rush port?

I didn't know about the MUA2 thing, and perhaps better characters should have been in the default roster, BUT it is Marvel Ultimate Alliance, not X-Men. So that's kind of a moot point.

Pack-in extras may seem like a knife in the back now, but think about how easily you can get DLC, even if you have to pay for it. Now think about swapping SD cards for a while. Mmm, tasty.

AT&T's 3G MicroCell tested and reviewed by Charlottean: yes, it works {Engadget}

Sep 22nd 2009 12:56PM Could be that it went on sale (albeit only in one location) recently?

Did you also notice they mention Sprint's AIRAVE in the same article?
