Dec 20th 2007 11:49PM My current watch is my beloved black Casio G-Shock G2900-1AV http://www.watchzworld.com/casio_g_shock_g2900_1av.html. This was the FIRST watch that didn't instantly break on me within the first 3 months of ownership and I am still on the same battery as when I purchased the watch in mid-2004.
I LOVE my G-Shock, but i would love to get my mitts on that Phosphor E Ink watch!
Wish me luck friends!
Alltel unveils Samsung SCH-U520 {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 1st 2007 7:52AM loosemonkey, You should really try calling 1-800-ALLTEL1 first in getting help with that one. The tech support they have there really seem to know what they are doing and have helped me out numerous times with internet access and sending pictures. Also, be sure when you call Alltel that you don't call from your own cell phone, but instead from a land line. It makes things a lot easier when you are working with your phone (with tech support on the other line).
Alltel unveils Samsung SCH-U520 {Engadget Mobile}
Jan 31st 2007 5:05PM I am really hoping that someone here can help me with this one: I purchased my u520 with the intent of using it for it's DAP features. After several reassurances from two Alltel level 2 tech support types telling me that the u520 did in fact support 2GB microSD cards, I went ahead and purchased an A-DATA brand card from Newegg (since the 2GB cards that are for sale in the Alltel stores are a bit pricey). A week later the card arrived and when I popped the card into the phone and attempted to format it, the card only formatted 1GB (of the 2GB space). "Hmmmm" I though. so I took the card out of the phone and put it into my PC's card reader. All windows could tell me is that the card was formatted in RAW format. So I decided to format the card from within Windows and see what happened. So Windows formats the card out to 2GB, not the 1GB that the u520 did. "Hmmmm" I says. So I pop the card back into the u520 and reformat the card using the phone. Well guess what happens? Yep, the card formats only to 1GB. "OK" I says, "Let's call Alltel and see what they have to say". So I call Alltel tech support and get another level 2 tech support type and I explian to her what has been going on. After some Q&A back and forth she tells me: 1) Yes, the u520 does support 2GB microSD cards, 2) Since I did not purchase the card from an Alltel store, that they cannot support it or really even help me with it and 3) Had I purchased an "officially supported card" from an Alltel store and had this same problem with it that I could have taken it back to said Alltel store and they would have gottem me another card, tried to make it work , or given me a refund for the card.
Does anyone in the forums have any ideas as to where I should go with this? Has anyone in the forums had any problems like this with cards not wanting to format to their proper size? Is the u520 so finicky that it has to have a certain grade of memory card?
Any advice is welcome and looked forward to!
Thank you,

Alltel unveils Samsung SCH-U520 {Engadget Mobile}
Dec 12th 2006 1:47PM I actually chose the u520 over the Moto KRZR K1m and have been very pleased
with it so far.
These notes apply to the Alltel version (CDMA) of the Samsung SCH-u520 and
it's particular software interface.
Some pros:
* Very small, bot not so small you loose it.
* Great battery life, though I will probably be purchasing the extended
battery soon.
* Less expensive then the KRZR by ~$149 (after Alltel rebates). My u520 was
only $99 after the rebate, the KRZR would have been $249 after rebates
* Great reception..nearly as good at my old-skool 5100 series Nokia with its
whip antenna
* The volume on the handset can be as soft or LOUD as you need it to be
* The 1.3MP camera (1280x960 max resolution) produces very clean images for
this resolution.
* The
* Tons of settings for the camera and video camera...nearly like having a
real digi-cam in your hand.
* GPS! It really works! It found me and presented a 3D-ish road map of
precisely where I was when I enabled it.
* EVDO... need I say more?
* The display screen is very well made and is easy on the eyes. Great
graphics...like looking at an LCD television.
* The slot for the microSD card is externally located...easy to swap out
cards.
* The u520 comes with 64MB internal memory that can be used to store pics,
video, messages and music.
* The controls are on the outside of the phone just under the mini display.
And unlike the KRZR, they are actual buttons, not a touch sensitive buttons
that are under the shell.
* You can answer the phone without opening it up by using the "hands free"
button located on the side of the phone.
* You can control how long the main screen and keypad stay lit up: 7
seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, always (literally) on and always
(literally) off.
Some cons
* There doesn't seem to be a way to give a given contact more than two email
addresses.
* There doesn't seem to be a way to record misc. information (like street
addresses, birthdays, etc) in the form of simple text notes for each
contact.
* The four way circular button that surrounds the OK button is small for my
fingers...maybe I just need to practice more :-)
* When texting, the button that allows you to insert "spaces" between words
has been moved from being associated with the 0 (bottom row, center column
on the keypad) to being associated with the # symbol (bottom row, right
column). I am too accustomed to it being center-bottom, and I keep
accidentally inserting "0" instead of spaces between words. Doh!
* So far as I have been able to find out, the size limit for micro SD cards
is 1GB.
Other notes:
* The u520s camera has a self timer, though I don't know how you would use
it since there is no way to set this phone up on a tripod or set it up in
some way to steady it.
I hope this helps you out!
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 reviewed {Engadget}
Sep 10th 2006 1:38PM I contacted Panasonic in regards to SD cards [larger than 2GB] for my Lumix FZ7. Here is their reply:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Panasonic DMCFZ7K. We apologize for the delay in providing you a reply to your inquiry and we hope that this delay has not caused you any inconvenience. The DMCFZ7K is not compatible with 4 GB SD cards."
When I inquired if there was ever going to be a firmware upgrade for the FZ7, Panasonic replied with:
"Thank you for your reply regarding your Panasonic DMCFZ7K. Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated. Panasonic will not be releasing a firmware update for the DMCFZ7K to make it compatible with 4 GB SD cards."
Doh! No SDHC for me!
