Palm Pre User Guide: the highlights, so far {Engadget}
May 28th 2009 7:19PM No mention of VPN PPTP, IPSEC anywhere. I guess this means the Pre does not do VPN out of the box.
Officially Official: Volkswagen Scirocco R {Autoblog}
May 22nd 2009 2:32PM I love the interior as well! I also wish my car looked like that. Does not look like a Dodge interior at all, those I think are horrible.
TweetGenius for BlackBerry review {Engadget Mobile}
May 5th 2009 7:39PM Thanks for the review. I'm considering it but am very happy with SocialScope. The only thing TweetGenius seems to have over it is the search function, but even then I can't really say anything until I use it.
Zer01 Mobile's a nomad, will roam with a variety of carriers {Engadget}
Mar 24th 2009 7:15PM For $79.95 you get the same unlimited but you can also roam for free on 40 additional countries according to their site. This would be huge.
Oh and it also seems like the VoIP is sent over a VPN:
"The service will bypass carriers’ circuit-switched channels, sending voice as VoIP-based packets over carriers’ packet-based GPRS, EDGE or HSDPA data channels to a virtual private network (VPN) that in turn accesses the public Internet"
Talk about overhead!
The latency on EDGE will hurt the calls a lot, and losing a packet will cause problems to the voice unless they use a Skype like system where packet loss is not an issue and re-transmission is acceptable. The only problem is latency in the voice call will be higher. If it's livable I don't see many people, like me, complaining too much.
Zer01 is the new, contract-less MVNO that will bring VOIP to the mobile masses {Engadget}
Mar 16th 2009 5:36PM This is an interesting concept. The carrier is basically getting only DATA from carriers in the US and the 40 countries they listed and they will do all their Voice over IP. The unlimited international roaming bit is VERY tempting, no one else would have that. But like others have said getting an unlimited international data service with no voice would be the same thing, and you can then use your own VoIP client.
The good thing is that there is no contract, the bad thing is that it will only work on Windows Mobile and possibly Symbian, but since there is no VoIP client for Blackberry it will never work with them. If I could use an E71 for a service like this it would be perfect (or maybe another Symbian phone with a better radio).
The reliability of the service though might not be very good. VoIP over EDGE will be pretty bad and forget about GSM only coverage. Most of the carriers in the world should be able to do EDGE at least.
PSP testing tool surfaces on eBay {Engadget}
Mar 16th 2009 4:09PM I used one of these a few years ago. The test unit can play games from a DVD. When testing daily builds there's no point in burning UMDs. The game runs off the DVD and once the Gold Master is released it gets put on a UMD by Sony.
Telefonica scores global Pre coup? {Engadget}
Mar 11th 2009 6:20PM If this is true for Latin America that's a huge hit for Movistar. That would finally give them something that America Movil does not have exclusivity to. If Telefonica will launch the Pre in Latin America then yes, it would have to have 850/1900 Mhz to work. At least in Mexico those are the frequencies used, and I'm pretty sure the whole American continent uses these frequencies.
REPORT: Next Subaru Legacy headed for the Big Apple {Autoblog}
Mar 11th 2009 3:53PM Richard,
I agree, every year they add a little bit more. Mine is an 08. I love the red interior of the original Spec B and the fact that they were numbered. I also like the tail lights of the 06-07 a little better. When I bought mine I couldn't find an 06 nearby so I bought new. I got the 6 speed tranny and the Mp3 capabilities of the stereo, but that's it.
Once I get around to saving some money I just need to get the grill replaced (maybe even the front bumper too) and my spec B will look a lot better than this concept... hehe..

Mar 11th 2009 3:02PM iPod AND Bluetooth? I'm sure it will have Xenon lights as well. Thanks for keeping that out of the current gen SOA.
I'm glad I got my Spec B in the previous gen. I don't like this concept.
Mysterious DirecTV iPhone app appears, imaginations run wild {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 18th 2009 6:59PM There's a thread on DBSTalk about this trial and giving the CE (cutting edge) members a chance to sign up for the trial. It's been a while since I've been active on that forum with the latest trials for the HR20 but there's always a lot of action on that forum. I downloaded the latest beta DirecTV2PC app and it worked pretty damn well.
