Switched On: Sony plays both ends against the Kindle {Engadget}

Sep 2nd 2009 9:48PM I'm an original Kindle owner. The Sony reader seems interesting, but it's lacking a big feature: one-handed reading WITH BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT HANDS. The reason you need one-handed reading is for comfortable reading on an airplane or while laying in bed (or my favorite: a hammock), and if you're reading for a long time, you want to be able to comfortably shift hands. The Kindle 1 had this down perfectly...the buttons were great for one-handed reading with either the left or right hand. But this one? The buttons are at the bottom of the screen, which is awkward, and although you may be able to use touch, that requires two hands (one to hold it, one to do the gesture).

Lest someone think I'm beating up on Sony, Amazon did the same stupid thing with the Kindle DX, which I would have loved except for eliminating the left-handed reading buttons. Yeah, you can flip the thing over, but that's going to get annoying fast.

There's quite a few business flaws in his argument, but that's the giant gaping hole in his legal argument.

A better look at Guitar Hero: Metallica {Joystiq}

Dec 22nd 2008 6:17PM I think comparing sales figures of GHWT, essentially a brand new game, to sales of RB2, a sequel with minimal changes to the original, is not a fair comparison. For a fair comparison, you really ought to compare sales of Rock Band to GHWT...in which case Rock Band beats it by a considerable margin, even factoring in time-in-market.

Also, if we're only going to judge a game by how well it sells, BioShock, GTA IV, and COD4 can all take a back seat to that awesomest of all awesome: Wii Sports.

I don't care how well GHWT sells, the arrangements of songs are not as good as Rock Band's arrangements. I don't like the instrument construction as much (even considering Rock Band's early instrument flaws). But most of all, GH as a franchise has convinced me that they are trying to sucker me out of money. I'm fine with giving gamemakers their due (and I've blown a pretty penny on Rock Band DLs), but there's a point where it becomes clear that you're ripping people off. GHWT: Metallica is a prime example. As many others have pointed out, this should be downloadable content, NOT a separate game. Making it a separate game is a sucker play.
