Best Buy-sponsored survey shows that Americans want smartphones even though they don't understand them {Engadget}
Jul 1st 2009 4:00PM Man you're wrong with both of your points.
First the smartphone features of the iPhone even in the hands on non-techie people still get used a lot more than other smartphones. I know parents and grandparents that used features of the iphone like weather and safari that they would never use on a windows mobile or blackberry. Also, there are a TON of people out there with Blackberries that used them for nothing more than texting, its ridiculous.
As for Japan, yeah their phones are packed with features but having talked with people from Japan they say that most people dont even understand how to use all the features. Its all about the feature check list, you buy the phone with the most check marks. They are creatures of habit just like us in the US, if everyone is buying Blackberries then you buy one too.

Jul 1st 2009 12:12PM I think you mean the Black Berry WiMo phones. So many people have purchased a Black Berry only to use them for texting. They never set up the email account properly and rarely use the browser.
At least the iPhone is easy enough to use that a large majority of users take advantage of the browser and stock apps like weather and maps.

Jul 1st 2009 12:05PM I know people that have purchased a Black Berry then never use the browser or set up email correctly. They pretty much use it as a dumb phone for texting but still pay the $30 more per month on data. blows my mind.

Josh is on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight! {Engadget}
Jun 17th 2009 4:11PM Jimmy Fallon isn't really a nerd, he just pretends to be one on TV to get all the nerd ratings.
If you listen to him talk about tech it becomes pretty apparent he has no clue what he's talking about. Pretty lame.
His whole bit of having a computer at his desk and interacting with people over skype is a rip-off of the live streaming online show Tom Green stared a few years back. tomgreen.com
The Apple effect on design {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jun 9th 2009 11:28PM I agree with gib. You can't blame Apple for the crappy imitations flooding the market.
If these companies weren't copying Apple they would be copying someone else or they would be coming out with those beige boxes we had in the 80s.
They dont have to copy Apple design, they could take their chances with something dramatically different, but thats too much of a risk for most companies that are made up of middle managers and bean counters.

Jun 2nd 2009 8:11PM How is this better than the TV service Sirius offers?
If I was a trucker I would go with one of those KVM Trackvision mobile dishes that connect to Direct TV. Much better deal and you get ALL regular Direct TV channels. You can get them for SUVs and mini-vans too, they are slim and attach to the roof rack of the car.

May 20th 2009 12:00PM I have seen people at work wrap and bend their power cords in sharp 180 angles until they start to rip and fray around the connector area just like the picture above.
Yes Apple should have made the cable thicker so this wouldn't happen but come on people take care of your stuff!
