Hey FCC, force big cable to clear our QAM! {Engadget HD}

Dec 14th 2007 3:43PM Cable companies -- and content providers -- want to curb piracy.

In many cases, it's not possible to restrict access to those channels once they are in the clear. Content providers like Discovery require that their digital channels be encrypted in their contract.

Of course, a number of providers are also moving to SDV which clear QAM tuners cannot tune, even without encryption.

Rhapsody users experiencing login issues? {Engadget}

Dec 13th 2007 1:57AM "Anyone have a recommendation for a different subscription service - with why you choose it over others?"

One alternative is Zune, but you'll need a new player. The Zune 8 is nice.

Zune's subscription service is like Rhapsody, except it lacks the Channels and dynamic playlists which automatically update whenever you sync your music player. Zune service does have some advantages -- better hardware (Zune 8, Zune 80, cheap Zune 30s), about 20% more songs, the ability to sync via WiFi, and full support for 64-bit Windows.

Rhapsody users experiencing login issues? {Engadget}

Dec 12th 2007 10:00PM Jer,

They did the same thing to me, except on the phone, and I very polite. I asked if I could get a credit for this week and they said no and hung up.

Rhapsody users experiencing login issues? {Engadget}

Dec 12th 2007 6:26PM I haven't been able to login to Rhapsody since Monday morning. Rhapsody says it will be fixed by the end of the week.

They say its a known problem affecting several thousand customers, but they will not give me a credit for the week, which is ridiculous.

New Zune review (part 2): upgrade, hardware, software and Social {Engadget}

Nov 18th 2007 4:09PM Why is there not a single mention of the subscription service? That is what sets Zune apart from the iPod. It is the only feature they have -- other than wireless syncing -- that iPods do not.

I was extremely disappointed to find that Zune Marketplace does not
have dynamic / auto-updating playlists.

With most subscription services, you add "dynamic playlists" (such as
the Billboard Top25 Rock, Top25 Dance, Top 10 New Rock Songs this
Week, etc) to your player and it will automatically download those
songs every week. You simply connect the player to the PC and it
automatically downloads all the newest songs and hits.

I was under the impression that this was a standard feature on all
subscription services. (Isn't that what a subscription service is
for?) But as far as I can tel, Microsoft's Zune service does not
offer that functionality. That's a glaring oversight, in my opinion.
It severely limits the usefulness of the subscription service.

Zune people: we hear you, expect more coverage soon {Engadget}

Nov 14th 2007 6:48PM With a future article, please consider a comparison of the Rhapsody (using a player like the Sansa E250R) and Zune subscription services.

Yes, there is. Instructions to fix that are found in the TCF MRV/TTG FAQ below:
