Intel pulls SSD Toolbox for killing drives under Windows 7 {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2009 10:16AM I have the firmware ISO still. I also have a great deal of torment from installing it that I would not wish on you. So NO FIRMWARE FOR YOU!

I will save you from yourself.

Intel pulls SSD Toolbox for killing drives under Windows 7 {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2009 10:05AM Yeah, I would think so too. I think I'm just being a little paranoid based on the detrimental outcome of the problem. It will be interesting to see how this pans out, it seems like most of the people on the Intel support forum had troubles after a reboot and new driver install in Windows 7. Hopefully it's just a driver mix-up, but it really sucks that a lot of people are so inconvenienced right now.

It's amazing to see people on here have a Mac vs Windows argument about this when it likely isn't Microsoft's fault. This is bleeding edge tech, things happen, this could easily be happening on Apple hardware too. Considering the fact that it wasn't happening before the firmware update, and it IS happening after the firmware update, automatically blaming Microsoft is illogical. It's more likely Intel's fault, or at least something they should have caught. I was embarrassed to even admit I had this installed on a MacBook Pro based on other comments from supposed Mac users.

Thanks for the reply!

Oct 28th 2009 9:30AM Lovely, I just updated the other night. No problems yet. It is in a MacBook Pro, has anyone heard of this happening in OS X? I haven't seen any reports yet, but I'm more than a little freaked out.

Not to mention I run Windows 7 in a virtual machine, though I haven't started it since the firmware update. The VMware driver wouldn't pass TRIM commands to the SSD, right?

Argh, new tech ... it IS crazy fast though :)

AT&T's 3G MicroCell does unlimited calling, but it ain't cheap {Engadget}

Sep 20th 2009 10:12PM Huh? Why don't you just get an EV-DO modem and use Verizon? I just used it in a backwoods country bar in the middle of Michigan's upper peninsula and the guy I was traveling with who had AT&T hadn't even had phone service for 45 minutes in the truck, much less high-speed data. I travel a lot, and this is almost always the case. Unless you live in one of the handful of areas in the country where AT&T works and Verizon doesn't, as opposed to the millions of square miles in urban areas where Verizon works and AT&T does not, this seems like a viable option.

Yes, it's only 5GB per month for $59, but that seems better than only getting on the Internet for 2 hours a week, or not having Internet access at all.

At any rate, this would not get you a microcell. But with Verizon, you likely won't need it :)

Dell Latitude Z series to include wireless charging? {Engadget}

Sep 18th 2009 1:51PM Dell puts their serial numbers on their laptops using stickers? Wow, that is janky.

I bought a Honda Civic, and before delivery I told them that I didn't want any stickers on it. They put one on anyway. The offered that I do an inspection of the car before signing the final paperwork, and I noticed the sticker. You wouldn't believe the sales manager's attitude about it. "Sorry sir, we put those on all of the cars we sell." Not mine. I sat there and refused to sign the paperwork until they took it off, and they finally did. They had to send it to the body shop to get it off completely.

Why do any products have stickers? It just seems so 1980s to me.

Sep 11th 2009 8:59AM Does anyone know the time limit on the "Live Pause" feature? I saw that you could rewind it as far as 15 minutes, however I'd like to know how long it will record and then resume if left sitting. I can't find this anywhere.

Thanks!

3G S sales expectations shift higher, Apple offers $30 credit for activation issues {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 21st 2009 11:09PM Wow, that is incredible. I walked into an AT&T store Friday on my lunch hour, bought two 32GB 3G Ss and they activated on the spot. Couldn't have went smoother.

Sorry to hear about everyone's troubles, but it's awesome that Apple is taking care of it this way.
