Nikon's new D90 in full, gory detail {Engadget}
Aug 27th 2008 9:16AM I never cared for the video mode on digicams and this time it is no exception. Especially given that Autofocus does not work with video - ie you have to manually focus all the time especially if you want to get a bit creative with shallow DoF.
Having said that that looks like a fantastic piece of kit and when prices come a little down it is the replacement of my D40 :)

Aug 19th 2008 1:23PM 280£???? 550$ for a 60GB 5" player???? They have to be jocking right?
HTC Touch Pro now available in UK {Engadget}
Aug 12th 2008 4:11PM It is available now on Orange for 40$ a month on an 18 month contract and you have to pay 200$ for the handset. I am sure if you bargain a little bit you would get it for free :)
D90 outed by inventory screen at $1,300 asking price {Engadget}
Aug 11th 2008 7:58PM I think the main reason is that Canon does not really have anything between the 40D and the full frame 5D. It makes no sense to compare the DX sensor D300 with a full frame sensor camera. So they compare it to the closest that Canon currently has at their line up and that so happens to be the 40D.
Also when the 40D came out it did cost very close to what the D300 costs now, it was regarded mostly as a semi-pro rather than a high end consumer DSLR. However it is now quite old and cannot compete with the D300 in features/performance so its price has dropped dramatically.
Canon currently is being spanked by Nikon left right and centre as I see it. They have to act fast and decisively if they are going to compete seriously.
It has nothing like the uber cheap D40, the new 1000D only barely beats the D60, the 450D is too expensive and competes with the D80 which is a better camera save for the not so brilliant high ISO performance, the 40D will have no place at all once the D90 arrives, there is nothing to compete with the D300, the 5D is too old to even barely come close to the D700 and at the very top the D3 is doing amazingly well.
diNovo Edge Mac vs. PC {Engadget}
Aug 8th 2008 3:17PM Hm maybe I should give it a shot although I am not sure I will like the keyboard feel, my previous logitechs were a very mixed bag in that respect.
I loved the white apple keyboard feel but after 3 of them failing on me in less than 13 monhs (thanks john lewis for exchange them every single time) I ended up getting a refund. I can't say I like the new ones nearly as much so I am on the lookout for a different keyboard.
Is this Philips' next-generation Senseo? {Engadget}
Aug 7th 2008 5:29PM I am no barista but I'll take my Vivi and Mazzer Mini with freshly roasted coffee.
Of course I have tasted coffee from the Senseo and it is extremely easy to use and clean and it beats stuff like instant and drip coffee hands down but that is about it.
That looks uber ugly btw...
Olympus' 10MP EVOLT E-520 DSLR gets reviewed {Engadget}
Jul 30th 2008 4:06PM Given that the D80 is almost 3 years old it being better wouldn't be very surprising. Of course it still has a smaller sensor so maybe the Nikon is still better in controlling noise in higher ISOs. If it has the same sensor as the E-420 then noise will be an issue for this camera already from ISO 400. In the D80 ISO is a problem at 1600. Even on my humble D40 I can shoot with near impunity at 800 - 1600.
PowerColor PCS HD4850 graphics card packs 2GB of memory {Engadget}
Jul 14th 2008 11:32AM When even the 4870X2 comes with "only" 1GB of memory I think the answer is not and that is just pure marketing. You will need resolutions of 27 - 30" monitors to maybe take advantage of the 2GB but at these resolutions the card will be on its knees with modern games.
Invisible hand slashes NVIDIA GTX 280 and GTX 260 prices {Engadget}
Jul 14th 2008 4:38AM Didn't even know previews of the 4870X2 were out! Thanks!
So true though the X2 simply has the 280 for lunch and for a similar price... Hope they can release them soon and at quantities that will not drive the prices up instead of down.
