Apr 2nd 2008 10:20AM I said it before (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/11/10/verizon-t-mobile-take-top-honors-in-latest-j-d-power-survey/comments/8668283/), but the prior JD Power survey was not for customer service but for retail sales satisfaction for the mobile carrier's individual stores.
Their notes about the average quality of CDMA versus GSM is interesting. The article states that GSM is not as efficient, and therefore requires more towers than CDMA for equivalent call quality. But that would be resolved if GSM were the dominant standard, which it is not, in the US. Market forces at work, I suppose.
Still, hard to decide: cool phone... good quality...

Verizon, T-Mobile take top honors in latest J.D. Power survey {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 13th 2007 12:47PM The engadget article seems misleading. This survey is for the *retail stores*, not the same as the spring survey (located at http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=3314 ) which was general customer satisfaction.
MobileBurn says this survey's four leading factors were:
* Sales staff
* Store display
* Store facility
* Price/promotion
Contrast that with the spring survey's six leading factors of, "all performance and reliability, brand image, cost of service, service plan options, billing, and customer service."
Personally, I spend almost no time in phone carrier's retail stores, since they usually cannot solve the problem I need. I'd weight the customer service of my carrier much higher than its store displays.
