Connecticut man consults Apple Genius and gets arrested {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 25th 2009 8:40PM One of our techs was working on a computer that was having issues with the filesystem, and once fixed, he tested out a file on the desktop to see if the data had transferred. Upon opening it, with everything in coverflow, TONS of child porn poured out. It was terrible. Guy has a young kid and everything. We had the computer impounded, called the cops, and turned the HDD over to the police. There's apparently still a suit pending or something, but I haven't heard much since this happened in february. We only just got the computer (that's been sitting on our done shelf) off our tech list as a completed repair. It's been plaguing us for Months. Absolutely terrible. We've enacted a new rule here in the shop though: Regardless of any PR fiasco, any tech finding any seriously questionable material where you know someone is underage, we are to immediately call the police and sort out the rest afterwards. Zero tolerance policy on it.

Apple sends out iPhone 3G "questions" memo to retail stores {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 25th 2008 8:47PM Can anyone post a copy of the actual memo (if anyone here got one) for some of my fellow employees? We're a fellow mac reseller and people always come in asking about the 3G iPhone, and some of the floor people have no idea what to tell people and I think we're losing customers because if it. The memo would go a long way to keep the customers in the store and actually answering questions so we don't all look lik idiots that know nothing about macs.

Explore Carrie Bradshaw's MacBook Pro {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 22nd 2008 6:40PM All the characters & Producers on that (canceled) show/movie need to die from Cancer of the Aids of the Eyes. It is such a trite piece of $#!t, it makes me furiously angry every time I'm exposed to one of the trailers. Maybe it's for the same reason I didn't like Seinfeld, but I can't stand that friggin' show. i hope it bombs at the box office...

Found Footage: Mac for Attorney General {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 8th 2008 12:29PM Yeah, we've been seeing these here in Eugene, OR starting last week. Ridiculous, as if the Mac ads weren't already completely pretentious, this doesn't make me want to vote for the jackass. Regardless of how liberal he is. Also the way he emphasizes the "Mac" in his name, as if to say "get it? *wink wink*". What a jackass.

Virtually Overlooked: Shadowgate {Joystiq Nintendo}

Jan 7th 2008 7:43PM This is my most favorite game of all time. The only real replay value it has (I find) is speed gaming: How well have you memorized all the puzzles to be able to get it finished as quickly as possible. ON the NES it really is relegated to how exact you are with the D-Pad pointer, but on the wii I'd be able to break my record in no time!

As for the game itself, it was some of the closest D&D gamin you'll ever have on a console. Most D&D branded games are all point and click, real time combat fests (i.e. Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate) but this embodied the puzzle aspect that is always fun when roleplaying. And the answers to said puzzles come to you in the weirdest ways. I remember that I had to virtually recruit a team of other 4th graders to help me beat the game. At one point, I'll never forget, We were stuck at the point where the Cyclops is guarding the other half of the castle, and you couldn't get past him. None of us knew how to beat him, and I remember at dinner (after 3 frustrating hours of gaming) that I was mentally going through the inventory of things that you picked up along the first half of the game, and when I got to "Sling", it struck a chord, and for some reason I made some odd parallel between the cyclops and "David and Goliath" and DING! It came to me. I remember calling up all my friends at like 9 PM excitedly telling them all over the phone, we were all so excited. Only to get together the next day and be eternally stumped by the damn chemistry lab afterwards.

It may not seem like such an epiphany, but for a ten year old, it was akin to finding the secret to One-Eyed Willy's treasure that day. Ahhh, good memories.
