iPhone syncs with Outlook and Entourage -- kind of {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 26th 2007 1:11PM @Drew

Are you serious? Do you know how many home users use Outlook as a contact database? Or how many consumer smartphone users already sync their phones to their computers using Outlook?

I'm always amazed when people ask why a product should be able to do something that they personally don't use it for. We all have different setups chachi and there are a lot of us who use Outlook at home.

Hands-on with Samsung's slick, sliding glory, the F700 {Engadget}

I think it's more accurate to say that wifi CAN be free. So maybe you could have written it: You hear that? Free*

* at select locations

I (along with a lot of other people) need/want always-on high speed everywhere I go and 3G serves that role very well. Sure, free wifi is great at the local coffee house (and many other places), but almost every hotel I go to charges for their wifi. I prefer a flat $50/month/"everywhere I go" option to a $10/day "only in my hotel room" option.

Wifi in a phone is great (though there is a definite battery life issue that is bigger than the 3G radio). My point about the F700 is that HSDPA goes a LONG way toward
mimimizing the loss of wifi. People who buy this phone are going to get some kind of data plan and most of the carriers price things as such that you'll spring the extra cash for the unlimited plan anyway.

Still a much better feature set than the iPhone. I hope the final UI rocks.

Pretty sure it's going to continue to be their own OS. Still, I saw a demo of the OS and it looks pretty solid. Probably no 3rd party apps, but robust sync with Outlook, solid media player and an amazing camera for those of us who care (5mp). Also, I don't get the "no wi-fi" comments. I travel a lot (granted to major cities) and 3G coverage is amazing in the states now.

O2 Xda Flame to redefine Pocket PC high end? {Engadget}

Nov 21st 2006 2:37PM I first read this and actually considered what it would be like to spend $800+ on a smartphone. According to my mediocre-at-best geometry using the screen size as a reference, this thing is 4.5" x 2.75". My Treo 650 is 4.5" x 2.3" and is already bulging out of my front pocket to a degree that is one step short of a phone belt-clip in terms of girls being willing to talk to me. LCD headsets are great to keep something this big tucked away, but it's going to be a challenge to keep this thing low profile for those of us vain enough to care.

Oh, and thanks Dave... I forgot to think about it, but I need QWERTY unless there is some revolutionary data entry system they have yet to unleash. They are getting so close to the perfect phone/pda/multimedia device though.

Nov 18th 2006 5:40PM Very impressive specs until you get to the screen resolution. Can someone...anyone explain to me why this machine, the Asus G2, Macbook Pro or almost all of the other "high end" lappies refuse to go 1920x1200 resolution? I render video and game some of the time, but I look at my screen ALL of the time. Going from a glossy Sony WUXGA to anything less is just not an option for me. Why wouldn't a "high-end" machine offer the best display available since that gives you the option to choose whatever resolution you want? And don't say it's a cost or supply issue cause Sony charges a boatload and ships plenty of A series.
