Nokia rumored to be eyeing Palm buy yet again {Engadget}

Nov 13th 2009 5:13PM This keeps on coming up but is just as likely as T-Mobile acquiring Sprint...
What does Nokia have to gain?
-It's not a lack of OS (Symbian^2, ^3, and ^4 are all being developed in some capacity).
-It's not direct technology from WebOS (Symbian's widget system seems similar to WebOS 'programs')
-Maybe IP rights?

WebOS is built on Linux... so maybe something to do with Maemo?

A purchase like this does absolutely nothing to strengthen Nokia's position in the industry, IMHO

Dell's Inspiron Zino HD on sale now in America: starts at $229, doubles as an HTPC {Engadget}

Nov 12th 2009 7:48PM Oh wow...
Sorry, my mistake. I forgot I had added wireless N, so that's a check off the r3610 since they both have it. AND after more reading, the 9400m and HD3200 are pretty much on par with each other. I'm unsure about audio over hdmi for either of them... so i'll leave that alone.

However, Dell changed 1 very important thing since my last post. Win7 premium is now a 30$ addon. It now comes with Vista Home Basic. That's pretty unacceptable and kills it as an htpc (unless someone is planning on installing xbmc, mythbuntu, or whatever -of course). Hopefully Dell is playing around with options and will change it back soon...

So more accurately (and with a little more research)...
Zino HD (3250e & WiFi n)
+slightly better cpu
+DVD burner
+More HD

Acer r3610
+wireless keyboard/mouse (remote turn on)
+Win7 Premium

Dell's Inspiron Zino HD on sale now in America: starts at $229, doubles as an HTPC {Engadget}

Nov 12th 2009 2:14PM I'm having a hard time between the two also...
At that price ($329):
Zino HD
+DVD Burner
+slightly more powerful CPU
+More HD space

Acer r3610
+Better GPU
+Wireless Keyboard and mouse (I think the KB can remotely turn on the unit)
+B/G/N Wireless
?Bluetooth? -unsure which protocol the keyboard and mouse use.

For me, the DVD burner isn't a big deal. I have a DVD player - howerver, the blu-ray add on is nice but kinda pricey. Lack of wireless at that price has me leaning toward the Acer and the wireless keyboard and mouse are nice addons (whereas Dell wants 75$).

It's a difficult call for sure.

T-Mobile officially unveils $99 Even More, $79 Even More Plus plans and equipment installment option {Engadget}

Oct 25th 2009 1:06PM What phones do customers want that other carriers carry? I keep on hearing about how tmo doesn't have good phones but no one says specifically what.
for cameraphone, they have the memoir
for winmo, they have they touch pro 2 (ie tilt on at&t) with the hd2 coming out in a couple months
they have the largest number of android phones out now
the nokia n900 is coming out in less than a month
for blackberry, their getting the 9700

what's so different than what at&t and verizon are offering? at&t only has the iphone and verizon has the storm and their upcoming motorola droid (the premium one, not the lower end ones that are the same as all the other android devices).

i mean... what? they don't have the iphone? big deal. they don't have the palm pre? it's not like the palm pre has been a 'game changer'.

Oct 25th 2009 12:55PM I don't understand. Why would you need to wait for TMO to announce the Nokia N900? It's coming out in November on TMOs spectrum, just buy it unlocked.

I mean, if you want to buy it from tmobile, then that's fine - but you're monthly bills are going to be higher (even more plan vs even more +) and you still will be paying for the n900 (monthly installment plan)

Dell Inspiron 11z reviewed with high hopes, disappointing realities {Engadget}

Aug 31st 2009 11:25PM Acer 1410
I mentioned it in the other 11z story from a week ago or so but it kills this Dell for the same price. I'm sorry for the people who bought the 11z (unless if you really needed it ASAP) but the 11z is terrible.

I hate sounding like a shill for Acer but ... the Dell here is totally outclassed and a waste of money.
The Acer has a 6 cell battery for about 6 hours of battery life (vs ~3.5 for the Dell)
It has a Core 2 Solo SU 3500 (vs a 1.2 celeron that's a tiny bit more powerful than a 1.66 Atom)
It has 802.11n vs 802.11g for the Dell
It has 3 USB vs 2 USB
It has smaller dimensions than the 11z

I can't seem to figure out the draw of this notebook (netbook is portable computer < 11"). It's slightly faster than a 1.66 Atom with half the battery life for a greatly inflated price. At this price, it has to compete with small notebooks like the Acer 1410.
