Access Mac-formatted drives from Windows using MacDrive {Download Squad}
Sep 10th 2009 12:02PM This problem wouldn't exist if Windows shipped with a decent selection of filesystems...
Microsoft could even prevent windows from being installed on anything but NTFS, but still include the likes of ext2/3 and HFS+. Heck, even if the support was read only it would be better than the current situation.
For one thing, FAT32 remains the only truly cross platform FS (important when using external HDDs and flash disks) and it is patent encumbered (as TomTom discovered) and has major problems with large files (>=4GB) and long filenames (>255 characters). Ext2 would be a perfectly decent replacement for FAT32.

Modernizr: start implementing CSS 3 and HTML5 features now {Download Squad}
Jul 3rd 2009 5:33PM Seeing as neither HTML5 nor CSS3 are finished yet I'd hold off before implementing too much in them. Especially if you like your CSS and HTML to validate properly.

Jun 9th 2009 6:16PM Or how about you use a better, easier version control system?
My personal preference is for Git, but you could go with Mercurial or Bazaar if you like. Plus if you use Git, you get to use the excellent GitHub service (free for OSS projects, http://github.com/).
Is Microsoft leaking Windows 7? Build 7068 hits torrent sites {Download Squad}
Mar 28th 2009 7:47AM Of course Microsoft is leaking Windows 7. Think of all the free press they're getting (like this post for example).
The fact remains, however, that Windows still has so many fundamental design flaws that haven't (and perhaps won't be) addressed by Microsoft. The way windows handles file permissions, for example. Or user permissions. The sad fact is that Windows was never designed to be a multi user system, rather it was tacked on when MS realised they needed it.
Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope hits beta, full release in April {Download Squad}
Mar 27th 2009 2:47PM Jaunty does NOT have the latest Linux kernel, it has 2.6.28. The latest is 2.6.29. It might seem like a small change, but the kernel often gains major features in point releases (For example stable Ext4 in the transition from 2.6.27 to 2.6.28).
It is likely that Jaunty will never use .29, as the Ubuntu developers have already committed themselvem to .28. This is the major problem when you use a release based distro (as opposed to a rolling release distro, such as Arch Linux). Another example would be Open Office as the last release of Ubuntu (8.10) never upgraded it to 3.x.
