LOL R U SERIOUS? How can it possibly be more open than open source? How could it possibly be free? When it costs manufacturers like HTC 15-25 dollars per handset to license WinMO to begin with? Don't ever post stupidity like that again!
I think Microsoft should take a fresh new approach "and they will according to Steve Ballmer" make the UI more user friendly and make their smart phone OS a bit smarter and easier to use. HTC has done a great Job with the HD2 but windows has to revamp their own UI so that not just HTC phones carry the goods. They need to do away with the old windows type of approach with the X in the top right corner. Phones need to feel less like desktops while maintaining or gaining ground on desktop functionality. It wouldn't hurt for all their phones to start being capacitive either and a little Zune integration and cloud type services like Google could not hurt at all.
