Don't shop drunk: Verizon's $350 ETF is now live {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 15th 2009 4:12PM This happened in canada about 2-3 years ago. One carrier changed their fee from $200 up to $400 and it had no impact at all on people's buying decisions, and so all the other carriers followed along. I'd expect the same thing to happen in the states... all the major carriers will do the same thing, and people won't change their buying habits because of it.
AT&T's Data Connect overage rates much lower now, still too high {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 12th 2009 6:35PM Wow every time i see these articles on prices i can't get over why there's this perception that american cell phone carriers are so much better or cheaper than canadian ones.
Up here overage has been 3c/min for probably the last year or so, and there's usually a $100 cap no matter how many GB you use. And we don't even have plans that go as low as 200MB, they start at 500MB for $25 canadian (which is probably less than $20 american).
Then on top of that throw in the fact that all big three companies up here have 21Mbps coverage that reaches almost the entire population and i really don't see any reason to envy the american carriers, eh?
AT&T's Nation with Canada plans make border runs a little cheaper {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 10th 2009 12:38PM Really, you guys don't have plans like this already? All the big 3 carrier in canada have had plans like this for the past 5-10 years now. And i know at least one carrier already has the option of bolt on travel packs where you can buy international roaming minutes, texting, or data, as an add-on to any regular plan.
Looks like all that competition down there isn't doing much for innovation, eh?
Imagine that: Bell offers video calling on the cheap {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 5th 2009 1:29PM Not quite the 93% they promised yesterday, but definitely impressive, and definitely better than rogers. I never would have thought they'd get it built up so well.
LG GW620 Eve coming to Rogers, Android deftly avoids AT&T yet again {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 4th 2009 4:56PM also launching... nokia surge $29.99, bold 9000 without camera, bold 9000 in "winter white" $99.99, curve 8520 in "lavender" $49.99, and new bold 9700 $299.99
Bell confirms HSPA launch on November 4 {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 3rd 2009 8:47AM Bell launched their 1xev-do network like 6-8 years ago, and they still don't have 93% coverage. The chances of this 93% being accurate are pretty slim.
Let's not forget that bell was trying to sell off its company to the highest bidder less than 1 year ago, before becoming the biggest buyout in history to ever fall through, because they had so much debt they were essentially bankrupt. If they're saying they managed to go from bankrupt to building the biggest cutting-edge network faster than any other carrier in the world, it's going to take a little more than a press release to convince most people.
Neither bell nor telus has a coverage map online so let's see what that looks like on launch day.

Rogers' Rocket Hub disguises 3G data and voice as mild-mannered home modem {Engadget Mobile}

Motorola H17 latest in company's line of flip headsets {Engadget Mobile}
Sep 22nd 2009 1:26AM Oh come on... Moto already shamed the industry by leading the flip phone era for people who take some cool sense of pride by playing with a useless flip gimmick. Now they're going to take headsets there too? Imagine some idiot keeping this thing stuck in his ear all day, then opening and closing it with that goofy smile on his face every time someone dials his wrong number.
Cant wait for the EARZR.
