New DROID ads show off Android, will make a man out of you {Engadget}
Nov 9th 2009 4:46PM James Van Der Beek from Dawson's Creek and Varsity Blues? I would have to listen to some of his other work to compare, but he is not who I would expect to do these ads.

Nov 9th 2009 4:08PM First of all, SMS doesn't use data like an IM, web browsing, etc., so you actually can text while on a call. I do it all the time(I do use Verizon). Second, how the hell are you doing all that while talking on the phone? Unless you're using a headset or speakerphone, I don't see how you could actually have a conversation while taking pictures, web browsing, or sending picture messages. Even if you are, doing that stuff is a distraction. It's kind of rude not to give your full attention to the person you're talking to.

Nov 9th 2009 3:58PM @k.misiura:
There is a plugin for iTunes that allows it to sync with non-iPod devices, but I can't remember the name. A friend of mine told me she uses it to sync with her Phillips DAP and her Blackberry. If you want a DROID and that's the only thing holding you back, you should look for this plugin and try it out. I did a search and found one for Windows called iTunes Agent, but I'm not sure if that's the one.

Nov 9th 2009 3:40PM Lets list some pros and cons of the DROID, facts only. Whether something is a pro or con is my opinion, but these are all facts nonetheless.
Pros: Verizon's network, large capacitive touch screen, physical QWERTY keypad, Android 2.0(includes FREE turn-by-turn navigation, Flash support, all the Google apps, auto-correction when using the software keyboard, a decent browser, the ability to gain root control, and an open-source platform), WiFi, GPS, 3G, 5MP camera, dual-LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack, removable storage with 16gb microSD included, same CPU as iPhone 3GS, and all in a case not much thicker than the iPhone 3Gs.
Cons: QWERTY keypad has no spacing between buttons, keypad buttons are totally flat, the sliding mechanism is not spring-loaded and does not lock the same way as most others, Android is still not as mature as other mobile operating systems, the Android Marketplace is still lagging behind Apple's App Store, some of Android's multitouch functions are disabled for some reason, and Verizon's smartphone pricing plans and new ETF are more expensive than other carriers'.
Feel free to add your own pros and cons below, but please stick to the facts and remain objective. My goal is to put it all out there, the good and the bad, so people can get the facts and make their own informed decision about the DROID.

Nov 9th 2009 2:50PM That is true, but irrelevant. That could be said about any new phone. There is always something newer and better on the horizon, but it's all about the here and now. I am pretty sure that the majority of consumers only get new phones when they get discounts and rebates, usually when signing a new contract or renewing an existing one(replacement due to loss or damage not included). I doubt very many people would buy a DROID and then buy another phone in a few months when something better is released. Only a small percentage of consumers, such as those who read Engadget, would do that. They are marketing the DROID as it compares to its competition today because that is all that matters. Compared to what is available today, the DROID is special. By the time Android 2.0 comes to other phones or something with better specs is released, this marketing campaign will have run its course. This is the reality of all consumer electronics. If you're worried about not always having the newest technology, you will never be satisfied. Just keep your finger on the pulse, so to speak, and buy whatever/whenever works for you. You'll be much happier that way.

Nov 9th 2009 1:59PM Seriously, what's next? A Chuck Norris endorsement? Perhaps Brent Spiner?
Autonomous Roombas do Pac-Man right (video) {Engadget}
Nov 9th 2009 1:49PM This was a bit of a letdown for me. I was expecting something a little closer to an actual Pacman game. I thought the red tape would actually be functional as a barrier and that the ghost bots would really turn blue. I'm sure that could be done with some extra sensors added, some blue LEDs, and the necessary software tweaks. I guess that was not the purpose of the demonstration. I think the headline is misleading.
iPhone vs DROID multitouch keyboard showdown (video) {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 6th 2009 2:54AM Exactly! Why would anyone use the software landscape keyboard on the DROID instead of the physical keypad? If you prefer a software QWERTY keyboard, you would be better off with the Eris or something else with the same form factor. I currently have an enV Touch(because I'm waiting for my New Every 2 and I can't really afford the data plan for a smartphone right now) and I never use the landscape soft keyboard. I use the portrait one with T9 all the time because I only need one hand for that, but if I'm going to use two hands I'll flip it open to use the physical keypad. I don't see that changing if/when I get a DROID.
Multitouch does make a difference on a software keyboard. I won't try to deny that. Multitouch allows for faster typing because you don't have to lift one finger before you use the other to press a key. It may not take long to lift a finger off the screen but if you multiply it by how many times you do that for a long email or a series of messages, it adds up. If the soft keyboard on the Eris didn't have multitouch it would be an important issue; but on the DROID- it's irrelevant.
Second Verizon DROID commercial stealth attacks America {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2009 10:41PM Personally, I think Verizon, Motorola, and Google missed an opportunity with their DROID marketing. They licensed the name DROID from Lucasarts(or was it Lucasfilm?) so why couldn't they collaborate further with Lucasarts and use actual Star Wars characters in the ads? I know they would need Lucas to agree to that- and maybe they tried and he said no- but I want to know if they at least asked. They could have cross-marketed the DROID with whatever new Star Wars product Lucas is promoting. How about offering a preloaded Star Wars game demo on the phone? It just seems like a no-brainer to me.
