ABC cancels Pushing Daisies, and I hate everyone {TV Squad}

Nov 21st 2008 10:10AM ABC, you can suck it. PD was one of the best shows on American TV, and should have stayed for that reason.

I want to punch the Neilson ratings prez in the nose, too. That archaic system needs to die a horrible death ASAP.

ABC - you haven't got a CLUE.

Philips and Magnavox brands licensed to Funai {Engadget HD}

Nov 20th 2008 8:59AM If it works well and has a (possible) lower price tag, who cares? I would buy a BD player for $150, no problem. I would hope that it lasts longer a couple of years, and that's the one issue I'd have with Funai: their build quality isn't so hot (or consistent).

Apple TV 2.3 update adds AirTunes streaming, support for other IR remotes {Engadget HD}

Nov 20th 2008 8:53AM I'll admit, I'm excited by what this little box can do. I just wish the rental prices were cheaper, since Netflix is certainly a better bargain if you watch more than 2 movies a month. That, and there are no day-and-date releases, so if you do want to watch a movie that just came out, you're stuck with the DVD / BD version anyway.

Still, if given one of these as a gift, I'd be pretty happy :)

Will tough times give RPTVs one final breath of life? {Engadget HD}

Nov 18th 2008 12:04PM Easy there, big fella. My Sony LCOS set is a fantastic TV with very few quirks to bother me (the silk screen effect can sometimes show up). Blacks are great, price was right ($1200 for 55") and the picture is wonderful. Plus, I can lift it myself ;)

Sound Advice closing up shop, liquidating stores {Engadget HD}

Nov 6th 2008 1:03PM Aw - I bought my first DVD player (a 2nd gen Panny), speakers (Boston Acoustics) and big screen (50" Mitsu) from Sound Advice back in the day. I've moved from FL to PA, and wondered if they were still around.

Here's hoping some HT retailers are able to survive.

Netflix Watch Instantly coming to TiVo {Engadget HD}

Oct 30th 2008 12:40PM When this goes day-and-date with DVD for new releases, and offers HD, I'll be happy. I'd prefer to keep my money and not have to buy an Apple TV or other device, so that would be great. I have a Mac Mini that I use as a test HTPC, but it can't get HD movies from the iTunes store, only Apple TV can. STUPID.

I don't have a BD player yet, and I'm on the fence until I can see who will bring me day-and-date downloadable goodness in HD.

Iron Man Blu-ray review roundup {Engadget HD}

Oct 9th 2008 1:23PM I just picked up the SD version (2 discs) for under $19 at my local grocery store. Seems like a great price for 2 discs. They had the BD version for $24.

James Harrison Criticizes Official, NFL Promptly Fines Him $20K {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Oct 9th 2008 12:08PM That game was FULL of bad calls. How many taunting calls were there? The one on the Pittsburgh receiver seemed completely unfounded, as the player clearly didn't even open his mouth. He smiled, pointed the ball at the sideline for a second, an walked away. 15 yards for that? Total BS.

I think we need a booth ref that can overturn flags. They can see these things better than the field refs at times.

Iron Man lives up to expectations, breaks all Blu-ray records {Engadget HD}

Oct 3rd 2008 11:51AM This was from Thursday's broadcast - today was "best of the week" (as usual for Friday).

Great interview.

WiFi-enabled Crestron touchpanel aids in stargazing {Engadget HD}

Oct 1st 2008 11:33AM Computer controlled 'scopes are nothing new - they've been around for a long time. They are also not that expensive - around $1000 for a scope with a decent mount and aperture size. And in all of these cases, the computer is built into the control handset, though PC/Mac control is an easy add-on with a cable and software (some is even free).

Not saying that his work isn't cool, as it absolutely is, but it also isn't a great leap. It just uses existing software and equipment in a new way.

And you should visit a local astronomy club "star party" some day. You will see more gear than you ever knew existed :)
