Video: Pre virtual keyboard developing rapidly, gets easy install method {Engadget}

Aug 31st 2009 2:27PM Both...physical is easy for me to type on but virtual is nice for quick entry’s. You can also support multiple languages on a virtual kb. I think most people just want options more than anything.

Aug 31st 2009 12:22PM You need to download Quick Install if you want the 4x4 icon lay out. There are a few other "tweaks" you can do with Quick Install like landscape MMS, add/remove launcher pages, ect.

Aug 31st 2009 12:10PM They may "tighten the screws" on the apps store but you will still have the option of using Preware to load apps that have yet to be approved by Palm and apps that Palm may not approve. Palm has already said they will allow non-approved and/or side loading of apps, so what they do with the official app store is not really an issue since the end-user will always have final say so on what apps and patches they have installed. This is that main reason I got rid of my iphone for the Pre. I can add what I want and not void the warranty or have the COE tell me it is illegal to “jailbreak” my phone so that I can add the things I want instead of the things they think I should want.

My Tether turns mild-mannered Palm Pres into wild and crazy hotspots {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 6th 2009 3:33PM If you want it the easy way you will have to dontate $10 to the developer as version 2.0 includes an installer as well. I use an older version (1.5) which does require rooting in order to install a webservice that is required for the app to work. Rooting is actually very easy as well you just need to download a few extra programs depending on what OS you are running on your computer in order to connect to the Pre. Rooting will also alow you to do a lot more to the phone, like changing the color of the dial screen and add or remove features that you may want or not want on the phone. 2.0 includes quit a few extra fetures that 1.5 does not, the main one being WEP encryption which is well worth the $10 imho.

You can get either verion here:

Then if you want to do more than just add apps, this website is VERY helpful.

Aug 6th 2009 1:15PM How is it locked down? I downloaded the SDK from Palm and added one app which is fileCoaster. It's the first on Pre GUI downloader/Installer and is set up just like the Palm App store. You scroll through and find the app you want...click on it and it downlaods and installs on your Pre in about 15 to 30 seconds depending on how big the app is. No Dev Mode or Rooting required. I'm not sure how much easier it could be, but maybe that's just me.

Aug 5th 2009 6:28PM How about a wireless video game controller instead? I might have actually kept my Touch since I would have actually been able to play games on the emulators. Virtual game keypads suck balls.

This is coming is September though...

Almost forgot...only d-balls give their comment order number at the end of their worthless comments...

Jun 12th 2009 10:25PM I'm with Rico...Dual-Boot WebOS/Android Pre!! Reading this article make the shitty battery life and questionable slider/keyboard non issues. WebOS on the TP2 while he's at it...might run into problems going from a capacitive screen to a resistive though...

May 26th 2009 9:09AM More complicated, I would say no...most are the same. Now once you add the copy/paste that seems more complicated than the iphone since it can not do that. Same with switching around cards and "throwing" cards out when you want to close them out.
