The 2008 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Game Console of the Year {Engadget}
Mar 2nd 2009 9:39PM Let me just quickly deconstruct your list of supposedly superior 360 exclusives:
* Left 4 Dead - Not exclusive. Seems like a decent game, but this is the top of your list?
* Gears of War - Solid gameplay and graphics, but 5 hour campaign and horrible online play. Still, I'll give you this one.
* Gears of War 2 - See above
* Halo 3 - The most overrated game of all time. That's not even debatable.
* Forza Motorsport 2 - Gran Turismo. You lose.
* Forza Motorsport 3 - See above
* Blue Dragon - Now you're starting to get desperate.
* Fable II - Still doesn't meet the expectations for the original xbox game.
* Viva Pinata - Ok, you're out of material.
* Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts - See above
* Tales of Vesperia - See above
* Star Ocean: The Last Hope - See above
* Crackdown - See above
* Halo Wars - See above
* Halo 3: Recon - Is this even a game, or just an expansion pack?
* Braid - What the hell is this?
* Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned - I liked GTA IV, but that game is ten hours too long as it is.
* Portal: Still Alive - Special edition of a game available on PS3.
* Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - See Viva Pinata.
* Rez HD - Rez? Oh yeah, I played that. On my PS2. In 2002.
* Castle Crashers - See Viva Pinata.
* N+ - You got me here. This is undoubtedly the future of gaming.
* Carcassonne - See above.
* Culdcept Saga - See above
* Lost Odyssey - Decent game, certainly not an all time classic.
* Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise - See Viva Pinata.
* Ridge Racer 6 - Ridge Racer 7.
* Pac-Man Championship Edition - Wow.
* Ninja Gaiden II - I'm a big fan of the original, and own Sigma (PS3 exclusive, btw), so I'd like to play this even though I've heard it's a disappointment.
* Alan Wake - lol.

Doorbusting at Long Island Walmart leads to worker's death {Engadget}
Nov 28th 2008 5:31PM Some of the comments on here are completely ridiculous. This was an accident. You want to know what this says about consumerism, capitalism, America, etcetera? Absolutely nothing. This is the result of a crowd going out of control and people behaving stupidly, not some nefarious plot or complete disregard for human life. Some of you act like these people busted down the door and then executed the employee when he tried to stop them.
Here's how it was described on Bloomberg:
"About 2,000 people had gathered outside the store as it prepared to open, Newsday reported, citing police Detective Lieutenant Michael Fleming, who spoke at a briefing. Shoppers in the back of the line pushed those in the front into the doors, which then came off their hinges, the newspaper said.
Hundreds of people then surged into the store, knocking over the worker and trampling him, Newsday said, citing Fleming."
This guy's death was the result of a stupid accident. It's very unfortunate, and I feel sorry for the family, but that's all I have to say about it.
What really bothers me are the holier-than-thou douchebags on this site (and nearly every other one) who post their moralizing, pseudo-philosophical bullshit whenever they get the chance. They're not actually interested in right and wrong; they're just desperately trying to prove that they're better than everyone else.
California high-speed train system to link NorCal and SoCal at 220mph {Engadget}

At the moment there's this idea going around, which has become quite popular, that we can miraculously solve both the economic and environmental crises through massive government spending on green infrastructure projects. One of Obama's campaign promises was that he would create 5 million new jobs through renewable energy projects. People are eating this up since it is such an easy answer. All we have to do is build more trains and presto! No more global warming, no more recession, brilliant! Unfortunately most of these projects are more like snake oil rather than miracles cures. That's not say they're all bad, though.
This train might have been a good idea if California wasn't completely bankrupt. I voted against it. Personally, I'd rather have schools and prisons, but I guess this train will have to do.

Not going to happen. Propping up America's failed auto industry is one of the Democrats' favorite hobbies. It looks like Obama's planning on pumping billions into Ford and GM while they bleed away even more. We should just let them die already. Unlike the banks, they are not too important to fail.
Ask Engadget: Best laptop for multimedia editing? {Engadget}
Nov 7th 2008 12:15AM Looks like AKBlade beat me to it.
Another recommendation for a laptop: the Sager NP5793
There's currently a $600 discount on it, so it's a great buy. It's more powerful than the MBP and even comes with a Blu-Ray drive. Unfortunately you'd have to use Windows, and it's not as nice as the MBP in many ways. It also falls into the category of big desktop replacement, which may not be what you're looking for. If you're not interested, I'd still recommend checking out Sager's other machines. They're a great value and generally high quality.
