Rock Band Weekly: The White Stripes, The Damned, Kasabian {Joystiq}

Nov 6th 2009 1:30PM I missed that part of the news. The Damned are pretty good, I'm actually kind of stoked on this week's release now.

Halo Legends Blu-ray dated Feb. 9, 2010; perfect fanboy storm approaches {Joystiq}

Nov 5th 2009 3:17PM Yes, as long as nobody makes a sequel to that shitty Stallone movie, we'll all be happy.

Allow Activision to introduce you to Taylor Swift {Joystiq}

Nov 5th 2009 12:07PM After Chris Hansen catches you, you gotta change it up for a bit.

Rumor: Footage of canned Shadowrun reboot {Joystiq}

Nov 5th 2009 9:36AM To everyone saying what a great shooter Shadowrun was, please stop. Seriously, I'm sure Shadowrun for the 360 was an amazing arena shooter, but the problem is it had the Shadowrun name attached. That means it had this huge world with a deep back story as well as a strong fanbase, and instead of using that to make an awesome single player game with a lot of depth, they turned it into just another multiplayer FPS. It was a complete waste of the franchise and that's why people were so disappointed. If that multiplayer had been just a mode within a bigger single player game, it probably would have sold way more and you'd hear far less bitching about the game. But it wasn't. It was nothing more than Unreal Tournament with trolls. If you don't get why Shadowrun fans were disappointed by that, you have to be retarded in some way.

Deal watch: Game discounts at Amazon {Joystiq}

Nov 4th 2009 10:12AM For the Canucks here, they'll ship these games to us too. With shipping and import fees, this winds up being only a little cheaper than buying up here, but I still saved $10 on 3 games I was going to buy compared to buying them in Canada, and that was after shipping, import fees, and the exchange rate. Plus, that import fee will be (partially) refunded if it comes out to less than I was charged at purchase.

MSX returns to Virtual Console in Japan with ... Metal Gear!? {Joystiq Nintendo}

Nov 3rd 2009 9:32AM The problems is that a lot was changed in the NES version. The graphics aren't as good as the MSX version, there are some problems with the translation, some ofthe rooms are different. The MSX version is the definitive Metal Gear 1. And Snake's Revenge was not at all related to the MSX version of Metal Gear 2. It was an entirely different game, made without Hideo Kojima's oversight for the American market. That is the only game so far (aside from Metal Gear Solid for GBC) that isn't considered part of the main canon for the series. MG1 and 2 are both part of the series' main storyline, taking place before MGS but well after MGS3.

Anyways, people want the MSX version of MG because it's simply better. The NES version was fine in the 80's when North Americans (and most Europeans) couldn't even buy an MSX, but these days I can just download a translated ROM for the MSX version, so there's no need to settle. It's flat out better, there's really no other way to put it.

Rock Band Weekly: Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Joan Jett {Joystiq}

Oct 30th 2009 11:58AM Dave Grohl and Joan Jett are connected through Pat Smear. Dave and Pat played together in both Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, and Joan Jett produced The Germs' only full-length, (GI). Pat Smear was the guitar player for the Germs, for those of you who may not know.

PSA: Best Buy's 'buy 2, get the 3rd game free' sale starts today {Joystiq}

Oct 25th 2009 12:31PM Doesn't look like this is happening in Canada. If Amazon matches this sale though, their American site will usually ship up here, so take advantage.

How would you change Sony's PSP Go? {Engadget}

Oct 24th 2009 4:16AM A second analogue stick would be nice, but it's not make-or-break for me. Likewise with internal storage. I'd prefer at least 32GB, but it's not a dealbreaker. What ruins it is the lack of a way to get UMD games onto the machine. There's no way I'd re-buy my collection for this thing in some DRM-ridden, digital-only format. I'd consider it for new games, but I already have a working PSP, if I were to buy another one of the same console, I would want to keep using the games I already have. Oddly, I wouldn't be surprised if the hacking community winds up opening this up with a CFW, thus delivering what Sony refused to. And then the piracy floodgates would be wide open, and Sony would have once again cut off its nose to spite its face.

I'd also prefer full-size memory sticks, just so I could keep using my MS-MicroSD adapter, but whatever. Also not a fan of the price, even if they fix all the above complaints, I won't buy it for more than CA$200. I can get a PSP 3000 plus a memory stick for less than they want for it here.

Borderlands shortages reported, Gearbox responds {Joystiq}

Oct 21st 2009 6:31PM I didn't find out about the cheap deal until today, and it's either completely sold out, been jacked back up to $70, or both. I'd love to get a copy at $40, I'd even pre-pay and wait for it, but Wal-Mart won't let me do a rain check, and everywhere else is charging full price. Since I don't pay $70 for games, these guys miss out on a sale. I'll pick it up in a year when it's gone down to $45 or if I can get a used copy or something.
