Verizon to charge for Exchange access on the DROID, probably on the honor system {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 3rd 2009 9:32AM Everyone is making a big deal out of this because as of right now they have nothing else to whine and complain about. So far the Droid has everything people have been asking for and 1 minut detail is going to cause people to make a mountain out of a mole hill. They just need to find something to bitch about because they don't like Verizon or have a problem with companies making money.

BlackBerry Storm update leaks to the masses {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 1st 2008 1:54PM Mike, when you purchase a notebook/laptop or whatever you are not using Dell's internet service that Dell pays for. I garuntee if Dell was an internet service provider they would not let you sponge off their bandwidth just because you bought a computer from them. Or if the way they made their money was through the monthly subscription, laptops would cost much less.

If you don't feel the need to have a data plan......go get a smartphone that Verizon released pre Nov 14. You aren't required to have a data plan on those phones therefore you can get what you want. Don't be a D-bag looking to make a few bucks because you feel like you were cheated in some way.

What do you mean by "unfair" smartphone data plan prices. Let me guess, you are one of those customers that thinks everything should be FREEEEEEEEEE. Just because you have paid your $60 a month for 20 months you should get whatever you want at no cost. THE DATA NETWORK COSTS MONEY TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE. Why do you think Verizon should eat the cost of that? If you use the network you are costing them money, therefore they charge you a relatively small amount mind you, so you can use that stuff.

If you get your facts straight you would have read that only a select few phones may required data plans in the future. Only phone that have full html browsers on them. The reasoning behind this is customer service, when that customer that says "oh no my teenage son/daughter does need that data plan" then that teenage offspring goes and blow up the bill b/c "oh look at this I can go on the internet" then mom and dad get the bill and it's $400. They proceed to call or go to the local store and raise hell b/c "I was never told of this" or "he/she said they weren't on the internet or downloading anything". Then hundreds of dollars of credits are issued because "oh they don't need that data plan" really did need that data plan.

It all boils down to people not thinking they should have to pay for anything. It should all be free.

Good luck with that class action suit Mike!

Verizon locks in BlackBerry Storm launch for November 24 at $199.99? {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 12th 2008 9:39AM You have to pay for it because it costs alot of money. No one cares what Vodafone is doing with the price (notice how inexpensive the plans are if that is correct as well)

Its so cheapskate like you don't walk in to get a Storm and then whine about the data plan being required because you think everything should be FREE FREE FREE just because you pay a monthly bill. moron

T-Mobile likely to skip HSPA+, head straight to LTE {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 9th 2008 9:55AM This is a really good thing and i'm glad to hear it. Reason being is it puts pressure on AT&T and Verizon to get their LTE done faster. Competition for something like this is great, not to mention it will force Sprint to do something drastic which may put them out of their misery (finally). One thing i will be anxious to see is IF DT rolls out LTE before AT&T and Verizon if their prices will increase. I really can't see them deploying LTE before those 2 anyways. They may commit to it quicker but i highly doubt they will get it out in full force before the 2 majors get it out

Verizon killing pay-as-you-go data plans, making other changes {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 7th 2008 2:04PM ANY pda at all whether it's new, old, ancient, or whatever will require. If you have a PDA w/o a data plan already, if you change your plan, have to get a replacement phone.....pretty much any change you will be required to put it on there. The feature will be automated to default on the device and cannot be taken off.

Verizon killing pay-as-you-go data plans, making other changes {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 3rd 2008 11:41AM They have protected themselves from people getting out of the contract over this. This will not be retroactive, meaning if you already had a PDA without a data plan they are not going to call you and say you must put it on. They will only let you out of your contract if the change affects you, ie. text messaging increase when you don't have a text plan.

This is not and will not be a free out of your contract. If they were making this retroactive and MAKING you put on a data plan when you didn't have it already then yes you could get out of your contract, but they closed that loophole.

Verizon killing pay-as-you-go data plans, making other changes {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 3rd 2008 11:29AM Shadow.....you don't HAVE to sign a new contract anymore. They have a month to month option, you just have to purchase the phone at retail price. That way you won't have to worry about it. As far as nationwide pricing, have you ever compared Verizon's MB charges to other companies.

If you don't put a data plan on a phone plan with AT&T they charge you 0.02 cents per kilobyte. At that rate, 1MB (which by the way Verizon charges $1.99/MB) will cost you $20.48.

Sprint you are looking at 0.03 cents per kilobyte, thats $30.72 for MB.

T-Mobile's runs $5.99 a month for what i believe is unlimited, but i could be mistaken on that.

Do you research before you make a stupid comment like verizon's "insanely overpriced MB charges" That rate of $1.99/mb doesn't look that bad now does it?????

I don't 100% agree with the some of the dumbphones requiring a data package, but i don't totally disagree either. Smartphones I think should have it required.

Department of Justice approves Verizon's Alltel acquisition, requires more concessions {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 31st 2008 10:46AM Many changes are most likely years away. However when the merger is truly complete Alltell customer will be considered Verizon customers and will get to enjoy the range and consistency of the Verizon network. If you still have an alltel branded phone at that time your phone may go into "roaming" but you will not be charged anything extra for that. Something that Big Red will have to work on with the roaming stuff is the way it counts the minutes on your plan. Currently if you are roaming on Verizon's network (which by the way RARELY happens) you accrue minutes even if you are talking to an "IN" network subcriber. These are the type of things why the merger will not be complete for years, the provisioning and billing systems are will be what takes the longest to complete and figure out.

Verizon does not have an "extended home network" they consider the entire US your home calling network.

They are being required to sell off certain things and different markets to keep with up market diversity. But i really don't see many, if any customer (VZW or Alltel) being affected by this from a coverage standpoint. Chances are many of the towers Alltel subcribers are using at Verizon owned.

Verizon notches gold in retail satisfaction study {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 25th 2008 10:00AM Thank you Eric, 1 person that thinks dealers are generally a better place.

Granted I am biased (just a bit haha) as I own 2 premium retailer stores. But that gives me the ability to control how people are treated, generally how long they are there waiting if at all. MOST (not all) dealers will give you a better in store experience than a corporate store, they want to help you because they want you to come back.

Motorola Krave ZN4 officially launches on Verizon for $149.99 {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 14th 2008 2:57PM Yes it will require you to switch to the new Nationwide Pricing plan. It's going to be on of those phones where it almost doesn't make sense unless you go with the premium calling plan. If you want it to be able to do everything it's capable of that's what you need to go with.
