Verizon confirms DROID tethering cost, will ask subscribers to double-down on their data plan {Engadget}

Nov 6th 2009 4:01PM Um... yeah, you can count me out. I haven't had to pay for tethering in the past and I'm not going to start now.

Man, between this and the new ETF policy, Verizon is getting GREEDY. And I thought AT&T was bad. Turns out they're maybe not so bad after all.

Apple 'Grab & Go' sync patent application features... Engadget {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 5:57PM Being able to store/download/access files from my iPhone (ie: an accessible file system of any kind) is one of my 3 remaining complaints against the iPhone. In all, the complaints are now:
1. TETHERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes, AT&T is at fault - but I don't care).
2. Adobe Flash (as a web developer, I LOATHE Flash - but I still want it on my damn phone).
3. Native file system/ability to copy files onto/off of the phone via USB and even view some (documents, etc).

I use AirSharing Pro for #3 currently, but native support would be nice.

Oh, and some of that free Google Navigation action too, please. TomTom can go fuck themselves in their greedy, sandy assholes.

Motorola DROID's built-in apps don't have multitouch support, third-party stuff is another story {Engadget}

Nov 4th 2009 12:03PM iDon't have multitouch.
iPhone DOES.

That... is called irony.

Oh well, all these smartphones always seem to miss something important - but no multitouch? That's sort of a major oversight. I was sort of intrigued by the DROID, too. *sigh*

Although with Verizon's new doubled ETF BS, I wouldn't consider buying a smartphone on their network for an instant. Damn shame. :-/

Google adds free turn-by-turn navigation, car dock UI to Android 2.0 (video) {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2009 5:45PM THANK YOU GOOGLE! I love that Google is single-handedly saving capitalism by forcing greedy bastards like TomTom and Garmin to rethink their economic strategies. When the only difference between a $100 GPS and a $500GPS is a few bits of data disabling features in the cheaper unit... then there's a problem.

I can't wait until Google gets into the healthcare business.

Barnes & Noble Nook e-reader leaks a bit early: $259, pre-orders are live (video) {Engadget}

Oct 20th 2009 3:01PM In a few important ways, this does seem to beat Kindle.

1) Touchscreen ui (even if it *is* only the little screen on the bottom - still not full-on touchscreen with handwriting capabilities that we SHOULD have).
2) The "Lending" feature.
3) It reads PDFs >>natively

Kindle DX called "poor excuse of an academic tool" in Princeton pilot program {Engadget}

Sep 29th 2009 11:08AM So technophobic old bookworms don't want to give up their dead trees for some newfangled e-whatchamacallit, huh? Big surprise there.

Maybe the old bastards should just retire and let in some fresh blood. Ideally, people who see the advantages in technological progress.

Still, Kindle is a bit ungainly to use, especially when trying to make selections using that clunky little cursor nub. Touchscreen would solve just about all the problems left, though... easy selections, handwritten notes... so maybe Kindle DX2?

TomTom pushes Google services to mid-range XL 340S LIVE {Engadget}

Sep 28th 2009 11:23AM The reasoning is that other navigation apps already support features like live traffic... and it's not like TomTom is providing the service either, they're using Google's services. Navigon is looking nicer and nicer, but I dig TomTom's dash mount with the extra built-in GPS chip (not like there aren't other dash mounts for iPhone, though).

Although there's also stories like Bmills' just below... TomTom just seems to suck at navigation. Not because they generally just suck, but because they're such greedy bastards that only their most expensive standalone products work the way a GPS is supposed to.

Windows 7 coming to netbooks in all its myriad forms {Engadget}

Sep 28th 2009 11:02AM My Asus 1000HA runs perfectly with Windows 7 RC with Aero turned on. Better than the copy of XP that came pre-installed, in fact.

TomTom pushes Google services to mid-range XL 340S LIVE {Engadget}

Sep 28th 2009 10:58AM If they ever deliver those services on iPhone, I might care (but not if they try to rape me with an added monthly fee)... that is, if I haven't just picked up the Navigon app by then, instead.
