Sidekick 3 available to current T-Mobile customers {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 28th 2006 8:55PM 4: Really? and what else would you have expected me to buy to keep in touch? The Sidekick2 was the only thing available at the time that would allow TTY and SMS type features in an easier device. My Spouse can't even use the voice function of the Sidekick2. and yes, i have taken VERY good care of my SK2, but used it all the time (and I mean ALL the time) to keep in contact. I wasn't the only user amoung the hearing impaired audience that the OVER usage has worn away the buttons and caused the contacts under the keys to get worn away (which they only released recently as being a known issue, which is how the keys on the SK3 are different). When your alternative is only typing, it REALLY gets used. We bought the Sidekick2 upon the strong suggestion of the local "hard of hearing" non-profit group since trying to use a standard phone was really not working. Not for the "really cool device" concept. Unfortunatly, they can't help subsidize a replacement phone either since they don't have the kind of cash due to being a non-profit.
And Old Nokia users don't normally have to spend $300 on a new phone unless it has a little bit of everything in it either (like the communicator). Nor is it designed with hearing impaired users as one of it's audience.
Sidekick 3 review roundup {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 25th 2006 8:26PM If you read around, there are some places that are already saying that if you are a current SK2 subscriber, you can purchase the unit "ahead of time", but what is the discount you get? Nothing. You are paying the same as if someone else decided to get a sidekick3, there are no rewards for having a sk2, no benefits. I spent $250 each last year on two SK2s (one for me, one for the deaf parttner) trying to wait until THIS year to renew my contract since T-Mo was being less than open about any kind of information about the sk3, now I find out unless I sign up with a 2 year contract (to get the $300 price) or a 1 year contract (for the $350 tag), i'm not REALLY getting any discount. This is really stupid and now making me consider switching to a blackberry for a measly $100 each with no price change in my plan, forget the SK3, that's way too much. Esp since then I will STILL have an sk2 that i can't do anything with. I don't have that kind of money to waste. Maybe if T-Mo GAVE away some of the SK3s to people who have been using SK2s for over a year instead of to celebrities that are gonna ditch them within a week, it would be fine.
