iPhone / iPod touch OS 3.1.1 is live! {Engadget}
Sep 9th 2009 5:56PM I'm at work and haven't been able to update my phone yet, but for all 3g users: did this new firmware speed your phone back up? I'm SO sick and tired of waiting for my phone forever when I try to do the smallest tasks because of 3.0. Please tell me it's improved.

Editorial: Taking the iPhone 3GS off the job market {Engadget}
Jul 10th 2009 4:53PM The whole virtual vs. actual qwerty on a phone is a matter of personal preference. I know people that have G1's that prefer the virtual keyboard rather than the flipout because of the error correction and speed of not having to press physical keys down. I also know people that have both iPhones and work blackberries and some prefer the blackberry keyboard. It also depends on the size of your fingers as well as what you're used to. Most people that entered the smartphone market with physical keyboards prefer them. People that learned first on the iPhone typically like virtual. I have fat fingers and prefer the virtual keyboards. HOWEVER, I do think Apple could do some things to improve it. First, the keyboard needs to be more responsive in all applications. 2nd, editing needs to be faster. I always miss the space key and end up with two words jarbled together. I want to be able to just click on the screen at that location and have the cursor enter rather than it entering before or after the word or holding down and waiting for the magnifyling glass...
Long story short, I don't think the virtual keyboard is bad---it just needs to be further fine tuned.
Also, at the end of the day, I don't really ever accomplish any real work on my iPhone because of its lack of multi-tasking. It's purely an entertainment device for me.
