Archos 5 has 99 problems and a glitch is one, 160GB version pulled by Amazon {Engadget}

Oct 12th 2009 8:03AM No news here. It's Archos, right?

Android-based Archos 5-inch Internet Tablet coming September 15 with (you guessed it) an AppsLib store {Engadget}

Aug 19th 2009 10:10AM Seriously.... Archos makes good leading-edge hardware. But their product all comes out 90% ready, and it can be extremely frustrating to deal with this, as they don't have the resources to really provide good tech support.

The really significant item in this information release is that Archos is apparently going to allow third party software for the first time. That's a huge change for this company, as the other major criticism against them in the past has been that their device is totally locked down. We'll see if this new system works better. I predict growing pains, but it can't be worse than the current situation where only Archos provides software, so there is nothing really to choose from.

Aug 19th 2009 10:03AM Archos is the best company in the world.

They make the best electronic devices in the world.

This device will change the internet as we know it. It has 200 times the screen area of an iPhone and is 1% bigger. It has the fastest processor ever made and will be able to show 2160p video at 98 fps while simultaneously browsing the internet and calculating the first 8 million digits of Pi. Peace and harmony will come to the world as all combatants stop their wars and buy an Archos device.

Soon Archos will be making so much money that they will buy out the lowly Appple and their measly iPhone.

I'm Chorbax, and I own no Archos stock.

NVIDIA confirms Tegra processor within Zune HD, details it real good {Engadget}

Aug 17th 2009 12:22PM Sounds good.

But someone actually needs to write some code that utilizes the processor muscle. How often have we seen great hardware crippled by buggy or unoptimized drivers? HTCs offerings come to mind (remember the Advantage?)

I would have loved for the Zune to be 25% larger with the same graphics capabilities....

3" is just too small for any useful purpose, including video-viewing.

How would you change Sony's OLED Walkman? {Engadget}

Jul 11th 2009 1:38AM Isn't the maximum effective video playback resolution something like 320 x 240.

WTF? Such an expensive device, and inferior video performance to any 100$ chinese PMP you can buy these days?

Sony - what are you people thinking?

iPhone 3G S global launch sees smaller lines, quieter reception (update) {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 19th 2009 6:09AM Agreed. From the perspective of someone who regards the iPhone/iTouch as a multipurpose handheld computing device, not as a phone, the half VGA screen has always been the deal killer for me. I look with some envy at the slickness of the iPhone, but each time I step back from getting it for that reason.

I've been using a multitasking PDA with full VGA 4" screen for nearly 5 years (the iPaq 4700). How can I possibly downgrade to a iPhone?

Panasonic DMC-ZS3 hands-on and review {Engadget}

Jun 15th 2009 11:12AM I bought this camera 5 days ago.

It's magnificent. People are blown away by the wide angle pictures.

HD quality is excellent, and sound quality is far better than I expected.

I bought it mostly so that I wouldn't have to lug two devices on vacation, and based on a discussion here at Engadget a couple of weeks ago. Best serious purchase I have made in a long time. Thank you Engadget.

Zune HD is official, heading your way this Fall {Engadget}

May 26th 2009 8:23PM Probably. But was that tradeoff worth it? Video is the key application here, and at that resolution the quality visibly suffers in comparison to the iPhone and most other "higher end" devices.

I have a Spinn, which has very similar specs, and at that screen size and resolution video playback is a novelty, not a useful function.

May 26th 2009 8:12PM screen resolution too low, screen too small. Another disappointment, but at least I didn't expect much from Microsoft.

The upcoming Nokia N900's screen of only 3.5" was much more disappointing.
