Number port stats suggest curious trends in iPhone 3G launch {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 23rd 2008 2:00PM @mac404: You're mistaken about being able to draw a conclusion from this sample. Yes, a sample size of 1,000 is plenty to draw a statistically meaningful conclusion, but what you're missing is that it MUST be a truly RANDOM sample of the entire universe that the conclusion is being drawn about. This is not a random sample. We have no way of telling whether it's representative of the wider picture at T-mobile or not. So it's insane to try to draw conclusions this way, and it's ignorant of research methods to pretend that any 1,000 results (of unknown origin) can accurately say anything about the bigger picture.

Full text of Microsoft exec's "I'd buy a Mac" e-mail {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 12th 2007 6:39PM This is NOT a fake. It's a document on file in a current court case. And if you don't understand what VPC is, this isn't the place to try to explain it to you. (And it's also a good bet that it's why VPC for the Mac was discontinued.)

Microsoft launches the Zune! {Engadget}

Sep 14th 2006 3:52PM How much do you want to bet that a lot of the comments here are from MS astroturfers? When people rush over here to make comments such as, "I was going to buy a new iPod, but now that I have seen this one, I must have it," it smells fake. There's nothing here that would make someone eager to go buy one (especially without knowing the price). The best anyone reasonable would say is, "Well, maybe it has possibility. Let's see what it costs."

Personally, I think it's ugly and I have no use for maxing out at a 30GB hard drive. The WiFi capabilities sound totally useless (and will eat battery life). I already have a device to transfer MP3s to friends. It's called e-mail.

It seems as though MS's corporate ego might be leading it to spend a LOT of money on products which can't possibly win in the market. The funniest thing is that I suspect Apple will trump the Zune by dropping an expected new and improved video iPod on the market right about the same time that the Zune ships.

iPod killer from Microsoft: the rumor is true? {BloggingStocks}

Jun 16th 2006 6:59PM Isn't this the 428th alleged "iPod killer" over the last five years? What in the world makes anybody sane think that MS has suddenly figured out how to do a better iPod than Apple? The only way Apple will lose its iPod/iTMS leadership is if Apple drops the ball and quits innovating. MS and its allies aren't going to suddenly leapfrog Apple. Whatever MS is showing to analysts and potential partners will pale in comparison to whatever Apple will release by the time the two products are both on the market. Apple "gets" the fact that simplicity is what consumers want from complicated gadgets. MS still acts as though it is supposed to out-geek its competitors. This is a very different market, and it doesn't play to MS's strengths.
