Nokia initiates shocking charger recall program (update: affects 14 million) {Engadget}
Nov 9th 2009 2:52PM I don't care if the charger works! I still don't like to handle defective products with a shock hazard, and they shouldn't have been made where the cover comes off so easily! You shouldn't have to be extra careful when handling a charger. You expect a charger to be reasonably safe.
Nokia's X6 to ship next week, maybe sooner if you're lucky {Engadget}
Nov 9th 2009 2:29PM I have the 5800 NAM and the firmware updates fixed the unresponsive screen. I'd have preferred capacitive too, but oh well. Also the price was under $300 for an unlocked phone free of carrier bloat and restrictions. I can do what I want with it without having to cry to the carrier or manufacturer, and I'm actually pretty happy with it.
AT&T sues Verizon over 'there's a map for that' ads {Engadget}
Nov 4th 2009 8:40PM The ad says "3G COVERAGE", end of story. If people choose to ignore "3G" or just look at the map alone, that's not Verizon's fault. I'm sorry Jack, but if anyone is unable to read "3G" when it says "3G" plain as day, this cannot be blamed on Verizon.
I can't blame anyone if I misread something or don't read it all the way through, it's MY fault. The only thing that Verizon likely should do is enlarge the disclaimer, but that's really ALL they need to do!
I know what you're saying but Verizon covered itself by using 3G maps only and clearly mentioning 3G. Once they did that, the claim that the ad is misleading dies. Yes it could be a "loophole" of sorts, if you ASSUME Americans really are that uninformed about 3G these days. But anyone can go online and look at AT&T's coverage map for themselves anyway. Even in the stores they have coverage maps. Why anyone would take anything any company says as gospel these days is beyond me.
I'm on AT&T BTW and for them to assume wireless customers really are that clueless about 3G is a bit annoying to me(that could go for Verizon too, assuming they really did intend to mislead, but I'm still not convinced given they took pains to mention "3G"). Especially the way they shove 3G down our throats as a selling point, do you really think Americans don't know 3G refers to the high speed data network and not coverage in general? They'll even tell you in the stores what the difference is so they can sell you a phone.
Ears-on with Sony Ericsson MH907 Motion Activated Headphones {Engadget}
Nov 4th 2009 7:02PM It's to stop us Sony Ericsson phone owners from b&%$#ing about having to use an adapter with our headphones. :)
Ears-on with Sony Ericsson MH907 Motion Activated Headphones {Engadget}
Nov 4th 2009 6:53PM I do own Sony Ericsson phones with that dumb fast port, so believe it or not, I'm one who could be interested if these fit my ears and sound good. The adapter for SE phones is a big PITA.
I prefer to use my own headphones too, but anything to get rid of that %$#@ adapter!!! SE really should just go 3.5mm all the way around on anything they release in the future. It appears they're being selective on what phones they allow it on. The Aino specs don't seem to mention it, looking on Sony Style.

Nov 3rd 2009 10:01PM But even if someone doesn't know what 3G means, the ad itself ISN'T misleading, because it says 3G plain and simple. Verizon isn't required to educate people, but they likely should put up a more prominent disclaimer.

Nov 3rd 2009 9:43PM If people are going to just look at the picture and assume it means all coverage, who's fault is that? It says "3G COVERAGE", plain as day. I need corrective lenses and even I can see "3G COVERAGE".
They put it in big black letters and big white letters in the TV ad. If people can't read, it's not their fault. Even the TV ad SAYS "3G" over and over. Sure the map is big on purpose, but the writing is clearly visible too. Like I said before, just enlarge and/or change the disclaimer to read that you'll be on AT&T's slower network if out of 3G, but phones will still work, or something like that. They already did this for the most part, they just need to make it more prominent in case there are those who truly still don't understand that 3G is not all coverage. And perhaps retool the TV ad a bit.
AT&T sues Verizon over 'there's a map for that' ads {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 3rd 2009 8:42PM Don't forget, AT&T also pulls a lot of crap with their supposed "unlimited" data which also isn't "unlimited". They also force data plans on people who don't want them, add stuff without people's knowlwdge, etc. etc.
They both have their huge faults.

Nov 3rd 2009 7:07PM Who is going to miss the 5X MORE 3G COVERAGE in bold black letters, unless they really aren't looking fully at all? Maybe they need to make it a bit bigger for those who really do just look at pictures, or perhaps make the disclaimer larger. But it's plain as day. It says "3G coverage", not coverage in general.
