RIM's BlackBerry Bold / 9000 gets official {Engadget Mobile}

May 12th 2008 4:00PM dont take it personal guyssss... im not dissing on apple or BB. i never said apple or bb wasn't innovative. all these guys are innovating, to me it just seems to be taking a while.

iphone is a GREAT device, improves all the features we're looking for into one device yes absolutely... on the other hand, look at the HTC Diamond, this new rafael that ssupposed to come and even the Touch Cruise and Tytn II/tilt that was out however many years ago it was.

i want the BB. i want the keys and everything. for the first time in a long time this looks like a phone i would actually be willing to part with my hard earned dollars for.

no i havent demo'd a phone personally for more than the 5 mins ive spent in any of the major carriers retail stores. but i absolutely have an idea of what i personally want in a high end phone. bb, apple, and htc are all starting to deliver. and this bb should be on tmobile, for that, i will buy it.

May 12th 2008 3:07AM see the ultimate device doesnt have to be keyless. it does have to have some touch though.

i found out while toying with my buds ipod touch that "pulling" thru a facebook profile with your finger is kinda awkward... with a trackball an operation like that might be easier no? having a seperate technologically advanced wireless keyboard nearby in a "folder" affords you the option to provide a trackball but thats not the point.

the point is that an iphone/ipod is an amazing consumer device - but for a business professional who needs keys, a stylish leather "passport" with an iphone that can slip out and a funky wireless keyboard would be a pretty awesome bridge in my most humble oppinion.

May 12th 2008 1:51AM absolutely, its kinda fat and kinda clunky... that said, its an awesome device and im gonna spend good hard earned money and im gonna buy it. LOL. i like fat girls... more cushion for the pushin.

i got this idea, motorola or blackberry or apple or somebody really should hire me as a product designer.

if apple created a leather "passport" folder. on one side of the folder fits and tilts your 3g iphone2, on the other side is a built in bluetooth or some other proprietary radio tech physical keyboard with a trackball ! the accelerometer flips the screen and all of a sudden youve got a super cool leathery mini awesome 3g tablet mac-phone.

and DUHHH, mac would certainly make a lot of hearts melt if they incorporated sling.

i am new to shopping the smartphone market but as an objective observer ive learned a few things. HTC seems to have this thing locked up moreso than bb and apple.

if this had a touchcreen included with the trackball and qwerty, maybe a slider model option for bigger screen, it would be a bold device. apple is also late to the game coming up with a device with touchcreen, gps, wifi, 3g... the tilt was out what 2 or 3 years ago now? all of this is mushy evolution, nothing bold.

i am NOT an apple guy, but spec for spec this new 3g iphone is a blackberry killer no?

consider this, for business users who love their blackberries, an add-on physical keyboard for an iphone seems like an okay idea... however you cant add-on a touchscreen or subtract fat-clunkiness and lack of style from a blackberry can you? and then theres the whole web browser debacle we're still trying to engineer. come freaking on blackberry its 2008!!! bring it!

i'm sold on bb 9000/bold for tmobiles service not for the device, otherwise i WOULD get an iphone.

now that tmobile has 3g, its pretty much a done deal in october i'll be getting this new bb if its out by then. i want tmobs prices and their hotspot@home is the winner for me over anybody else. im also hopeful sling player will finally be giftwrapped by then for the blackberry... and kinda curious why its not on the iphone yet.

How would you change RIM's BlackBerry Curve 8330? {Engadget}

May 9th 2008 10:35PM im a college student on my family's grandfathered-family plan with sprint currently. i am waiting for the contract to run out in october.

ive been closely watching the smartphone market, seeing whats out there and for how much. i decided a while ago i definitely want to switch to tmobile because their prices seem to be the best, and i absolutely want the hotspot@home add-on. hopefully i can use it on our campus-wifi. this limits me pretty much to blackberries which arent 3g... thats fine.

i can't wait to see the feature set on the new tmobile shadow ii thats supposed to come out soon. blackberry kickstart/pearl are also on my shortlist, but no 3g there. bb 9000 is on my radar.

what i REALLY want, would be an iphone 2, that would be ideal. but no way could i afford it or would it be on tmobile.

the feature-set i want, for a hotspot@home phone (first priority) would be
-hotspot @home is a must
-3g would be very nice for when i get a laptop to tether, but thats not an immediate priority
-gps (i might have to just get a bluetooth garmin/subscription seperately)
-touchscreen (would be great but might be cost prohibitive)
-slinbox slingplayer mobile ability
-3mpx camera/video would be awesome

im really looking into the new shadow or one of the blackberries and adding some gps and slingbox.

HTC Touch Diamond hits the FCC {Engadget Mobile}

May 9th 2008 2:28PM yea im hoping it has front facing cam also... the tytn ii/att tilt also had front facing cam in europe before it hit the us and they took it out.

the iphone 2 supposedly has front "sensors."

i read somewhere that us carriers dont want 2nd cams on phones cause it means we actually could use the technology for conferencing and that would bog down banddwith LAME. just get some real 3g going so we can compete with europe and geez.
