Entelligence: Got game? {Engadget}
Nov 15th 2009 8:26PM Where are these 20,000 good apps that you reference? I see the same app recreated over and over and over again. How many different calculators does the average person need? One - maybe 2 if you have a specialized need. How many are there? I stopped counting once I reached a hundred. The app count numbers are total fluff.
Or take the instance of Lite and Standard apps. So many apps have at least 2 versions of the identical app. One to try and one to buy. They get counted as separate apps but they are not. Microsoft just rolled out Windows 7. You don't hear it described as they just rolled out 8 new OS's (all part of the Windows 7 family).
And don't get me started on gaming. I'm still waiting to download a game that keeps my interest for more than 5 minutes. It's great that there are so many games. It's a bummer that they are utter crap when compared to a PSP or DSi. There honestly isn't a single mulit-use platform yet that delivers a good multi-media experience and good gaming. At best, all you can say is that the Touch/iPhone offer the best PMP/Phone gaming experience but that isn't saying much. It is a far cry from being good.
Don't shop drunk: Verizon's $350 ETF is now live {Engadget}
Nov 15th 2009 4:25PM Merton ...
What happens if my phone doesn't work at home like it did in the store? Shocking, I know, that a display model phone doesn't perform exactly the same way as every other single phone manufactured.
What happens when I move in 6 months and get crappy service? Verizon wouldn't let out of my contract since it showed that I SHOULD be getting good service. So, I had the privilege of suffering through 18 months of bad service or paying a large chunk of change to get new service.
What happens after my product is outside of warranty and it breaks. I'm still stuck with the contract even though my device is defective. I either pay my ETF, pay monthly for additional insurance, or pay out the nose for unsubsidized phone.
In each situation the consumer could have done all of their homework. Yet, in each situation they are being adversely impacted by exuberant ETF fees. The whole point of ETF fees is to collect the subsidization cost on a phone should the consumer not fulfill their contract. With Verizon raising their rates to $175 am I justified in expecting that I will be receiving an ADDITIONAL $175 off the previously posted subsidized cost? If not, then the raise in ETF is purely punitive in nature.
RIM unveils tighter Adobe partnership, new app payment platform, OpenGL ES support, more {Engadget}
Nov 9th 2009 12:50PM These new apps sound so promising. Too bad my corporation will allow Hell to freeze over before they allow any of these types of apps on company owned BB's.
I think that is why this initiative will ultimately fail. Unlike consumer grade products, corporate products come with corporate standards that aren't real big on giving the user a more "fun" experience. Corporate IT is all about shutting down and locking down, not opening up.

How would you change Windows Mobile 6.5? {Engadget}

What he suggested was based off cold, hard, facts. What you are suggesting is based off your personal opinions.
The fact is the the 360 has crushed the PS3 in sales (console, games, and on-line users). And it did that DESPITE the RORD.

Nov 7th 2009 4:28AM You need to come down in your pricing.
$400 covers ...
- cheap case
- Zotoc MB/Processor
- 2GB RAM
- 80GB Hard drive
That's a solid $100 at least for putting those 4 items together (about 10 minutes worth of work). Great board and good build. Just too expensive. Normally I wouldn't post but since you spanned your own site I feel compelled.

Nov 7th 2009 4:22AM You can play Blu-Ray natively on this box. Dual Core Atom + Ion chipset = Blu-Ray playback. I've built several boxes with this configuration and no problems to date. Like I mentioned earlier - the problem is with Flash right now. Until Adobe off-loads some of the processing to the GPU the Atom processor simply cannot display Hulu adequately.
How would you change Windows Mobile 6.5? {Engadget}
Nov 7th 2009 4:14AM Nothing is better than a news site wondering why a certain story doesn't seem to be getting hype.
As for the real question - what would you change ... I'll be real curious to see the responses. I bet 90% of those commenting on improvements have never used WinMo 6.5. This post will turn into a thread of people barfing up crap they have read here and on MacRumors. Most of which is total BS.
As someone who has been using 6.5 since very early builds I can honestly say the OS is top notch. I like it better than the UI on my iPod Touch. I like it better than Android 1.5 (which I also run on my phone). For people who are serious business users or tech enthusiasts WinMo offers more flexibility and customization than any other platform. It really is in a class by itself. It may not be the simplest OS or the most finger friendly. However, 6.5 represents a huge step forward and should get folks really excited about the possibilities with 7.

Nov 6th 2009 7:58PM Happy SERO customer here with my $30 plan that includes 500 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data.
Sucks that we don't get great deals on certain devices but the plan more than makes up for it.

Nov 6th 2009 7:52PM I build Atom based HTPC's. The dual cores cannot play Hulu reliably. Hopefully when Adobe gets their act together this will change.
