Jun 10th 2008 6:53AM Does anyone know if this includes an HDMI port for connecting an external video source. I'd like to use it as a monitor for an xbox 360 at 1080p as well as using it as a computer.

Jun 6th 2008 9:41PM Uh, the trackpoint is for your finger, not your thumb, and is the best pointing device ever. I have an UltraNav keyboard for my desktop computer as well - your hands never leave the home row, and is is much healthier for you than a mouse. Your arm was never designed for fine motor movements, and using a mouse for an extended period can cause all sorts of problems. Your fingertip is designed for fine motor control, and the track point is fast and effective. It might take you an hour or two to get used to it, but after that, there is nothing better. I'm been mouse-free since 1992 (IBM Thinkpad 700C with a 10.4 inch screen and WIndows 3.1)

Jun 6th 2008 9:36PM I have the following Apps installed: Adobe Creative Suite CS3 with Photoshop, Ilustrator, full Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Office 2007 Prof, Visual Studio 2005, Delphi, SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, NOD32 antivirus, Slysoft AnyDVD / CloneDVD, SmartFTP, Launchy, TextPad, WinZip, WinRar, Roboform, Camtasia, SnagIt, Quickbooks 2008, Articulate Presenter Suite, Jungle Disk remote backup, Nuance PDF Pro, Ultra Recall, Acronis True Image + all the pre-installed software, and I still have space left. (Btw, lots of good software worth looking at there - google them if you don't know them)
64 gb is lots for normal business use. I have all my key apps, and have no problems with space. I have an external 250 gb USB drive that I use for backup, large databases, and moving files. I use the computer on trains, planes, and automobiles (we miss you John) so I love the SSD - I have had multiple drive failures on laptops.

Jun 6th 2008 7:35PM I have been using one as my primary computer for several months.
Who cares about looks? I own a computer to use it, not as a fashion accessory! That said, it doesn't look ugly to me.
Here are the things I would change:
1. I should be able to hot swap the DVD for the extra battery - right now a screwddriver is required, and they do not recommend you do it often. I do not want to give up having the DVD, but a lot of the time I would trade for more batttery.
2. More life from the main battery. It is not as good as my X61 on batteries. However, the screen is much big and bettery, so I can live with that.
3. Docking station, docking station, docking station!!!! This is my biggest problem - I have to hook up my 28" monitor, keyboard, external drive, network, and AC, instead of just docking.
Overall, the best computer I have ever owned. Super light, has a DVD and a 1gb network connection. Like every thinkpad I have tried, the best keyboard in a laptop. I use the track stick only, but I think it is good they added the track pad for people who like them. Compared to an 11" or 12" laptop, the extra screen space is worth the extra size, and the weight is the same. I really struggled to use spreadsheets or drawings on a 12" laptop runnning 1024x768.
As for Windows, all I use an OS for is to start programs and open files. If it does that, what else matters. I actually use Launchy to start programs, because I find it faster than using the menu. I've used all kinds of operating systems, but if it doesn't crash, and you can get the software you need, I do not care what it is. I got my X300 with XP Pro because the battery life is longer than with Vista. It has been stable, and I suspend / resume many times during the day, and take my computer to different locations (clients) and different networks.
I have the ATT HSDPA card, which I unlocked, and have used it abroad with local sim cards without a problem. I would not consider a laptop without built-in WAN - the cards and USB modems are a pain.
Great laptop, would be perfect laptop with a docking station!
