Ask TUAW: Syncing folders, hard drive problems, reinstalling OS X, and more {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Apr 30th 2009 5:06PM Hey there,
Okay I have a mini-problem: Is there a quick way to disable the screen mirroring/extension?

I have an external monitor hooked up to my Early 2008-MBP via DVI set to extend my display.
Now the problem is that I also use the HDMI in on this monitor to play on my PS3, so I can switch inputs. Except OS X doesn't detect that I'm no longer using the DVI and keeps extending the display.
Someone suggested turning on mirroring, which works fine in theory, but the monitors a different aspect ratio so I get bars on my MBP screen.

Thanks.

Houdini 9.5 3D software coming to OS X {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 17th 2008 10:21AM blender is nice and all, but lets be honest. It eschews the standards of 3d UIs. Granted each app has its own system of working, but generally it's similiar enough to get up to speed quickly. Blender is bad at that.

Also, this is aimed at studios. That means they get support. They get higher scale solutions as well. Blender is nice and all, but houdini is better. Much better.

Feature parity doesn't equal product parity.

Next up for gaming: the MacBook {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Mar 18th 2008 1:41AM but in all honesty, if you really do want to game, and this will be cliched, you'd run windows.
Get a good DIY system and if you want OS X, just get a patched install. Lets be honest, noone really buys macs for the gaming.

Mar 13th 2008 8:31AM It's easy enough to rig up a device that will boot into a small OS that displays on the screen and allows minimal user interaction, yet the system could carry some other payload within it.
