Sony reluctantly pledges to enter netbook market, pouts {Engadget}

Sep 16th 2008 2:52PM Apple will enter the netbook market in the next 12 months but it not in the way everyone thinks - it will be with an adaptation of the iphone with a wider HD screen and a foldout keyboard.

How would you change Nokia's E71? {Engadget}

Aug 22nd 2008 9:24PM I forgot to mention that when you use the camera press the "t" key to autofocus before taking the picture - it gives much better results.

How would you change Nokia's E71? {Engadget}

Aug 22nd 2008 9:10PM I am pretty sure that if you hold down the email key it takes you straight to creating a new message. (you may need to configure which mailbox to use in the settings).

For those of you who are not aware of the other short cuts;

Hold down the contacts button to create a new contact.
Hold down the calendar button to create a new appointment.
Hold down the home key to bring up all running tasks and press again to switch between open programs.
To switch between general and silent profile hold the # key
To launch the browser hold the 0 key
To turn Bluetooth on and off hold the * key
In the browser '1' gets the bookmarks, '2' finds text and '9' gives the option to enter a web address. press * or # to zoom in and out of the page
Hold down the left soft key to have your unopen text messages read out aloud.

I bought the E71 for both my daughter and my son - I am really tempted to get one myself but am held back only by the camera (i use an N95 8GB). The media playing function is fine if you use coreplayer.

Aug 19th 2008 11:11AM I hope the rumored order for 5 million Palm devices isnt for this thing - it will bury Palm if it is.

iPhone 3G: everything you ever wanted to know (but were afraid to ask) {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 12th 2008 3:45PM Does it support MMS now - and if not will they allow third party apps to achieve this ?

iPhone 3G is finally official, starts at $199, available July 11th {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 9th 2008 4:31PM Its am impressive upgrade but no MMS is a real let down.

All UK phones have this feature - and it is used regularly. There is still a lot of phones that do not do email - and most that do, dont do push email so this is not the solution.

The HTC Touch Pro {Engadget}

Jun 4th 2008 5:49AM I wish people would get off the windows mobile bashing. The platform is a perfectly good PDA / mobile computer OS, with literally thousands of good 3rd party software apps to make it even better. What it lacked was a good phone interface and a one handed UI - HTC have done a really good job of addressing these issues and now we have the best of both worlds. A good PDA with loads of software and a great phone UI for everyday functions. Add to that a great design in a small form factor and this is a winner. Those of you complaining about the speed of touchflo need to go over to www.coolsmartphone.com and have a look at the videos. The only question I have is whether apple will top this next week

New images of Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 reveal minor updates, new color {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 2nd 2008 4:11PM I am a Windows Mobile user who also owns an Iphone - they both have there advantages some of which have been mentioned here.

The iphone UI is great and the screen is fantastic

The key thing about windows mobile though is the ability to adapt it to your needs with third party software. There is literally thousands of apps available and at least 100 really useful ones that make it a lot more useful in my view than the current iphone.

I have these loaded on my WM Artemis

Pocket Informant (superb extensive PIM application)
1-calc (excellent scientific calculator and convertor)
Lextionary dictionary
SPB Finance - full standalone finance package on your phone
Worldmate - full travel tool, flight planner and itenery manager
Tomtom navigator - satnav application
Ewallet
SPB Time
SPB Weather
SPB Backup
Resco Suduko
Zio Golf
Age of Empires
Bejeweled
Myst
Pdamill Snails
Pdamill Gamebox
Virtual Pool Mobile
Resco BrainGain
BrokenSword
Coreplayer
Opera mini
Mobispine

While I appreciate there is a cost to purchase these the addition of this software keeps me from giving up my WM phone and using my iphone full time.

However things are going to get interesting this year once new apps can be installed on the iphone - some of the above software is already being ported to the iphone and i will be watching closely to see if other developers release better iphone alternatives to my favourite mobile software.

Modu CEO says all Nokia can do is pray {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 15th 2008 3:08PM This is a good idea about 5 years too late. Remember the ipaq pocket pcs with expansion sleeves - a really popular device some years ago - a pocket pc with additonal expansion jackets for a camera, memory for mp3s, wifi, TV etc. What actually happened to this is as more pdas began to incorporate the functions in to the actual device the novelty wore off. Why carry a device with lots of different expansion modules when you can everything all in one in a realtively small package anyway.

The biggest problem with this is that when the ipaq was released there were not many other PDA options avilable, it was slick and different and many were sold. Today you can already buy phones with all of these functions built in.

I will eat my own foot if this breaks nokia
