Nokia E66 mini-review {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 7th 2008 9:20PM I went from qTek S100 (2003SE) to the Nokia 6300. Then got the HP 614c (touch screen with numeric pad was a high priority)
but I recall those few months I exclusively used the 6300 with great fondness, and am actually becoming more and more frustrated with certain failing of the 614c - and this E66 is bearing dead ahead on my radar (reliably fast UI).
I'm off to India in a couple of months (from UK) any recommendations/advice for buying out there?
P.S. another reason I stayed with WinMo was the ability to create Office docs locally (iPhone seriously lacking for a business user), but I saw these E series can edit office docs too ...
P.P.S. Will the Android Dream (see what I did there?) ever come to commercial reality? That would stay my plastic snatching hand ...
IBM plots global-scale shared computer to host entire internet as application {Engadget}
Feb 9th 2008 2:43AM All jokes aside, I'm actually impressed that rather than just building it to see if can be done, they're "thinking" about it; A White paper which "aims to explore the construction and implications"
One tiny little problem IBM will have is that the Internet is growing at such a rate they'll probably never "capture" all of it, so how could they ever say they've achieved the first aim; of its construction?
As for the implications, what more could it do that can't already be done with sufficient bandwidth, data mining software, and a personal "super"-computer?
Things I think we should be considering;
• How to make the net more accessible; to young, old, disabled, poor.
• How to improve interface technologies.
• How to improve content>user protection (i.e. protecting children from accessing stuff that society believes they shouldn't yet see).
• Keeping it deregulated
HP introduces iPAQ 600 and 900 series Windows Mobile 6 phones {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 15th 2007 8:09PM I'll be making the switch from HTC (for the 614c); I'm sold.
Also I believe these will both be QUAD-band.
Numeric keypad clinches the deal for me (I don't dial numbers alphabetically)
Just as soon as these come out in europe...
HP's iPAQ 610 gets demonstrated on video {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 15th 2007 7:57PM This looks the business!
Great feature list (hard pressed to find better)
Great to see it has a Numeric pad (it's a phone not a UMPC - although only just)
a whole 8 hours battery life - same as my 2 year old HTC, which doesn't do half what this can do.
HP seem to have produced a well rounded and well finished product - finally getting back to the top of the game.
One issue that springs to mind is that the smartTouch wheel doesn't seem to work like a D-pad (no up-down-left-right-centre clicks) but I hope that could be resolved one day with a firmware fix. The ipod-like scrolling is great though.
I'm in Europe - Where/When can I get one?
Three of i-mate's five Ultimate devices canceled? {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 16th 2007 6:38PM Thanks for the update - I also though iMate were still rebranding HTC.
Either way the Omni or the 7150 look sweeeeet.
OLE pill bug robot concept could fight forest fires {Engadget}
Aug 13th 2007 10:31PM Good point butterfly.
the most plausible use for these is within a narrow band between forests and residencies - thus protecting human infrastructure and life whilst allowing the forests to continue their natural propagation processes.
But if that's the case, then surely a well distributed fixed installation would be more practical than something trundling along at 12 mph with a limited supply of extinguisher.
Still, these do look pretty cool, and the faces on those cub scouts when they see one come trundling out of the forest to snuff out their camp fire would be priceless.
Is HTC's P5500 "Nike" the Touch II? {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 12th 2007 7:05PM WOW
Conceptually this sounds, and looks awesome
They just need to complete the integration of TouchFLO with the rest of WM6, tack on GPS, and this bad-boy's the daddy.
Would like to see the whole top sliding section looking more like the Touch (no distinction from where the touch interface stops and the casing begins).
Also really appreciate HTC sticking a numeric keypad on this - not sure why people like dialing numbers with a qwerty, nor why they can't get their heads around predictive text ???
HTC slides in with "Nike" P5500 {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 3rd 2007 7:14PM HTC Nike vs. Asus Pegasus (P526)
Mythology certainly is the name of these new convergent devices.
I for one, am sincerely relieved that these manufactures are listening to their PHONE clientelle, and producing QWERTY-less models.
I much prefer predictive (t-9 style) text on a numeric keypad than fiddly little qwerty buttons.
not sure about the 3MPix spec though (I read 2 eslewhere)
i-mate prepping JAQ4 and SP JAM for early '07 release? {Engadget Mobile}
Dec 11th 2006 7:51PM I would come to US (from UK) to buy the SP Jam. It's 100% what I've been waiting for, and I can't wait for it to make its way slowly and expensively to Rip-off Britain
ASUS releases P525 Pocket PC phone {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 3rd 2006 5:21PM At last!
A WM5 touchscreen smartphone ... with a phone pad!
Revolutionary!
Long overdue - take note HTC!
Thank you Asus, now when's the release date for UK?
