Nokia's S60 Touch Interface demonstrated {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 16th 2007 7:49AM Looks pretty sweet!
Nokia have had the tech to do this with S60 since 3rd Edition was developed way back in 2005 (Support for Touch was folded into S60 from their S80/S90 platforms) and I was pretty disappointed not to see it implemented on the E90. About time they pulled their thumb out and brought touch to S60 (loving it on the N800/770 and even the old 7710).
I'm pretty pleased that they've given the option to use a stylus as this is one of my minor annoyances with the iPhone/iPod Touch. Also the haptic feedback is a great feature, again a minor annoyance from the Apple devices.
Still, one thing Nokia still haven't got right is marketing. I mean how cheesy was that video!! The twinkle in the girls eye at the end? Come on.
Anyway I'll now leave this thread to the iPhone fans who'll probably have a field day with this ;)
Samsung's Croix: yet another 'iPhone rival' {Engadget Mobile}
Sep 4th 2007 10:49AM Destro:
The iPhone is revolutionary because of the UI that it has built in rather than its form factor. It's simply not true that Apple were the first to come up with this form-factor
I'm sorry but this is hardly an iPhone clone. Given when it was announced and when a working model was available for the public to try-out, this phone was being developed well before the iPhone was unveiled. And as for making it distinct, this device has a fold-out QWERTY keyboard and has far more advanced features than the (truly excellent) iPhone. I imagine this phone was developed to take on the very similar HTC devices with fold out keyboards rather than the iPhone. In fact HTC have been making Windows Mobile Devices with this form-factor for a few years now.
The same goes for the LG Prada. This was announced before the iPhone as well and the phones from LG like the KG990 are updates to that device rather than iPhone clones.
Nokia even had their 7700 and 7710 touchscreen devices back in 2004 and more recently have released the N770 and the N800. Of course none of these device are exactly similar to the iPhone but it shows that these form-factors have been around for a while.
The iPhone is a fantastic device. The UI is in a different class and the physical build is fantastic. It just annoys me that people seem to thing that any new phone that is touchscreen based is trying to *clone* it.
iPhone to feature eight hours of talk, new glass surface {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 18th 2007 11:48AM From the link: With 8 hours of talk time, and 24 hours of audio playback, iPhones battery life is longer than any other Smartphone and even longer than most MP3 players"
Bullshit.
Nokia E61 = 9.5 hours talk time, 19 days standby
Sony Ericsson P910i = 13 hours talktime and nearly 17 days standby
Sony Ericsson P1 = 10 hours talktime and over 18 days standby
Just a few examples from many. And some wonder why people get sick of Apples rhetoric...

Sony Ericsson K618 {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 8th 2006 8:52AM This is pretty much the same device as the Vodafone-Branded Sony Ericsson V630i, just with a new name and no Vodafone Logo.
Interesting bit of info:
The UAProfile for the device indicates that it also supports the "AudioVideoRemoteControl" Bluetooth Profile (also found on the K800i and V630i). This allows the user to control a Bluetooth-Capable media player using the device.
